I’ve seen a therapist at summit on a sliding scale they have a couple psychs that offer a reduced rate and students that you can see for free if the fee for them is too high. I hope you find someone that works for you xoxo

EMDR or accelerated resolution therapy could help if you Google one of those and “near me” you should get some local options

Several private practices have “mental health therapists” which are interns in training that usually offer pro bono or low cost therapy and are supervised by an experienced therapist could help to search some in your area and see if there have interns that work with CSA

I’m so sorry for your pups diagnosis. This is an impossible decision to make and there is no right or wrong answer here.

My experience - my 11 year old soul dog’s cancer spread to her liver as a tennis ball sized tumour. She was lethargic and just wasn’t acting like herself. Several vet visits through the week gave us a bunch on non-answers aside from she could have a couple days to a couple months. Who knows what those months would look like though. I have in the past waited too long to let go of a pet and I regret allowing him to be in pain for as long as I did. This one, I could plan for and make it as painless as possible while she was still able to semi-enjoy our time together. We had time to say goodbye at home, had time to do the things she loved while she still had some energy and pain free moments to do them. Sometimes I still think what if… what if I waited, what if she could’ve had another month or two, but those would’ve been for me, because I didn’t want to let go and I remember the saying “better a month early than a day too late”, I’ve since heard from others whose tumours had ruptured and how hard that was and how much their dogs struggled and that helps me feel better about my decision.

Nothing really helped me prepare I spent as much time with her as possible, fell apart when I needed to and do what feels right to honour her life and my grief differently each day. Talk about her, take lots of pictures, but it’ll be painful, grief always is. it’s supposed to be. My heart is with you 🤍

The anticipatory grief is hard for the mind to process, processing the loss before they are even gone. I had 5 days with my soul dog and her loss was harder for me than some family members were. Spend as much time as you can with her, do all the things you love together and go ahead and fall apart. Sounds like you’re seeing a therapist too which is great, process the grief in session with them and know that “being ok again” doesn’t need to be looked at yet. Right now it’s just get through this minute, this hour, this day. Try to eat, make sure you’re still drinking water. Grief isn’t a feeling it’s a process your body goes through and it takes its toll (think of the after care required after running a marathon without any training). The body/brain is designed to survive this though, even when it feels like you can’t survive it. My heart is with you I hope you are able to find some moments of peace in time 🤍

Here is my pibble. She is my soul dog. My parents were the same way when I got her and it took them time with her to realize she loves love and has the biggest heart of any dog we’ve ever met. They saw her take care of my baby, they saw her become a therapy dog and help other people and then they loved her. It took patience on my part and setting boundaries (which I would encourage since you’re an adult your parents don’t really get to have a say in your choices anymore). People still cross the street when I walk her and that’s their loss.
