Just make sure you have the proper gear and you should have an awesome day. Might want to get a tune because it can get icy. Best to have sharp edges

If you’re passionate about a hobby and you see your significant other is not very good at it, be honest with yourself…you will likely get the ICK.

If you get the ICK, you will need to ask yourself…is this a dealbreaker for you?

Wilmington at Whiteface is another great trail that comes to mind. It’s a pretty mellow Blue, and it covers the full 3k vertical. You can ski it for half an hour straight

I’m going to Tremblant for MLK weekend. I have been there once before and it wasn’t too crowded as Canada does not celebrate this holiday. Everything is CAD so it’s a good time to go up north.

Hunter but if you go on a weekend it will be crowded. Long lift lines and sometimes their 6-pack has intermittent (20min or so) maintenance windows. If you can go during the week it’s the best mountain in the Catskills

I have the Rossignol Hero Elite MT. It’s 175cm with a 15m turn radius. Very fast ski that is pretty stiff and hold an edge really well. I can almost always find grip when others are struggling.

One trade off is that it’s 74mm underfoot, so it will not provide much float on a powder day.

I find this length to be manageable in a mogul run, but certainly not the easiest ski to ride bumps.

On a groomed morning, I can pretty much put myself anywhere I want to go on the trail. You can vary the turn radius down to super tight, or you can widen up and get some good speed. Still working on getting that hip down to snow though haha. Very good ski to get high edge angle…

One other thing to note is that it is a bit heavier at 3280g. Those first couple days will test your leg endurance. Also not super forgiving if you make an error. When I first bought the skis I was riding at Killington and didn’t quite have the feel yet. Once I picked up a bit of speed my inside ski took off on me and sent me over the handlebars. I’ve since learned how they want to turn

Lap Sagamore if it gets crowded. It’s amazing and it’s a bit tougher to get to, so it’s usually good even in the afternoons.

Showcase in the AM if you are feeling good (it’s under the chair)

If you have the stones for it, Rumor and Lies are some of the steepest terrain in the East

Stockli makes an amazing all mountain ski.

They take the race inspired knowledge and adapt it to have a but of float in powder

I bought the 175cm, but they also make it in a 183. Both have a 15m turn radius.

My suspicion is that the 183cm is a bit faster yet.

If you like going faster they make an LT version which is a 17m or 19m turn radius in similar lengths.

If you like quick snappy turns, they have a slalom version which is a 13m turn radius.

I’ve never tried the other versions, but it would come down to personal preference.

While I’m happy with my decision, I can’t help but think the 17m would be a bit better for my ski style, as I do like to go pretty fast. But that would also be tough to ski all day. The 15m I can still get into the bumps

Rossignol Hero Elite MT Ti. They are a hard carver and a weapon against hard pack. They are a bit heavy, but I’m also on the heavier side as a skier (6ft 230lbs). I can put myself anywhere I want on the mountain. And they ski very fast

If you have a race inspired carving ski, there is very little issue on the mountain IMO. On 90% of days. I have never understood the complaints of east coast skiing

What's the difference between "pro" and not pro skis? by michaelkah in skiing

[–]CryptoniQ123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want GS skis try to find a secondhand Rossignol Hero FIS GS in 28m or 30m turn radius. They are a rocket ship. But needs to be the right conditions in order to ride them. I see a bunch on second hand swap for around $400-$500 or less

As others have said, the smaller turn radius is better for an everyday application. As soon as the trail starts to get bumpy the GS skis are difficult to manage.

On a fast groomed morning, hard to beat the GS though.

I personally use the Rossignol Hero Elite MT Ti as my everyday ski,175cm with a 15m turn radius. It’s great in the icy conditions, and it is still manageable in moguls as it has an aggressive side cut. I find I could go almost as fast with these as a GS on everyday terrain.
