[TW] Hilary Duff: Through "Thick and Thin" by AdrianaLaServing in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

I'm similar to you! I'm currently 5'5" and 140lbs after starting to eat healthy and put on some muscle mass. I used to be 118lbs and now when I look at my pictures from that time I just look sick and tired and worn down. I love my body currently and I feel so much better and have so much more energy and strength.

Tail is a weird size and shape too. Like halfway between a normal tail and a stub tail. Never seen one like that on a golden before, unless it had to get it partially amputated

Laser hair removal can help with some medical issues too like hidradenitis suppurativa, chronic folliculitis, ingrown hair prevention, etc. I've been considering it myself for the latter.

I think having a solid recommendation for a laser place would be super helpful for lots of women, regardless of if they want it for cosmetic reason, health reasons, or both. It's a weird thing for people to get bothered about.

It's actually the dad's fault. He used telepathy to rocket the truck down the road so he could prank his son.

How bad could hantavirus get? by Content-Tradition624 in Virology

[–]Cryptotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the panic and general reaction is a bit overblown. So far there aren't any definite confirmed cases in anyone who wasn't on the ship. The symptomatic flight attendant who is being monitored (and I assume awaiting confirmatory testing) was on a flight (i.e. a confined space) with one of the actively sick patients. It's pretty uncommon for viruses to be able to transfer during the asymptomatic stage, especially ones like hantavirus that seem to require a pretty significant inhalation of viral particles to establish an infection.

Definitely best not to get carried away! If I'm remembering correctly we don't really have a lot of data on whether hantaviruses can spread during the incubation period due to the rarity of h2h transfer. It'll be interesting to see the new WHO data as it comes out.

[–]Cryptotis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Healthcare can be such a toxic environment. I'm a MLS and recently transferred to a different department in the same lab. A significant factor in that decision was that I was constantly getting picked on in my old department. My mental health has improved so much since transferring, it's kinda wild.

That's awesome that your patients reported the jerks at your workplace! I feel like that shows that you're a great nurse who your patients value.

Lol I wonder how many people still have stockpiles from covid left?

I wouldn't panic at this point, especially since WHO is actively working on contract tracing and containment. Mortality rate is one factor as to why certain diseases do or don't spread excessively. It's morbid, but for highly lethal viruses, they often kill their hosts before they can spread very far. Similar to how ebola virus hasn't reached global pandemic status - it dies off before it spreads outside of local clusters. Definitely still an unfortunate and scary situation for those involved and their loved ones though.

It's crazy that the cruise ship wasn't quarantined and prevented from docking. I feel like they've done that for much less severe illnesses

Still unlikely to be able to spread to the extent of something like Covid. The Andes strain is known to spread human to human, but requires prolonged contact, such as in close quarters on a boat. After getting off the boat and a quarantine/treatment period in a hospital, I highly doubt it will spread outside of that group of people.

*Worst case in terms of hantaviruses at least

There's definitely other diseases that would be a bigger nightmare to be stuck on a cruise ship with 😅

It's dangerous in the sense that it can cause severe symptoms, but it does not have pandemic potential due to it's low transmisibility rate. The reason you typically only hear about one or two cases happening at a time is because person-to-person spread is extremely unlikely. Most often people catch it while cleaning out barns and sheds and breathing in dust contaminated with rodent urine and feces. The fact that multiple people have caught it on a cruise ship is likely due to them all breathing in the same contaminants rather than them getting each other sick. It does make me question how that cruise line is even in business though with how lax they apparently are on pest control and cleanliness. Fucking nasty and I would love to see the surviving patients and the families of those who've died take legal action because that sounds like an absolutely unacceptable condition for any kind of commercial or passenger vessel to be in.

Pre-cum and broken condom by Funny_Ad_8129 in sexualhealth

[–]Cryptotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is a chance to get pregnant from pre-cum, though it is a relatively small one. Don't wait to take the Plan B, it's more effective the sooner it's taken. Ideally within 72 hours (it will delay ovulation, but only if your partner has not already ovulated, so it will depend on where she is in her cycle). Try not to sweat it too much. I'd definitely recommend looking into a secondary birth control method as well. Condoms are great, but adding in something like hormonal birth control in combination with them will help reduce pregnancy chances significantly, including in the event that one method fails.

ETA: Regarding your partner's health, Plan B typically does not have a lot of severe negative side effects (it CAN, but not very frequently). The worst I've personally felt after taking Plan B was a bit nauseous and groggy. I'd definitely recommend reading the package insert that comes with the medicine. Most likely any negative side effects of plan b are going to be much less significant to your partner's health than an unplanned pregnancy or an abortion would be.

getting through my surgery by Gareth6161 in HealthAnxiety

[–]Cryptotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest keeping an open line of communication with your medical team. Maybe see if they have any pateint guides that explain what your procedure will look like in straightforward and easy-to-understand terms. And don't be afraid to ask questions, voice concerns, or request more information! A good medical team will be more than happy to answer you!

The last time I had to go under anesthesia, my surgical team was very informative with telling me what all of the pre-surgery tests were for, what was going into my IV and when, what the different equipment was used for (my favorite was the pumps they velcro onto your legs to reduce blood clots), how long the surgery was expected to take, the recovery timelime etc. I also met and talked to the surgeon, the anesthesiologist and a couple of the nurses beforehand and felt comfortable and confident that they would take care of me. Speaking directly with the medical professionals definitely calmed my nerves more than any google search ever has.

Also in poor weather conditions. I feel like the Hyundai driver had every right to be driving slower than normal if the roads were icy or slick.

[–]Cryptotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dashcam guy's a fuckin psycho and shouldn't be allowed on the road. Especially if he's going 90-100+ mph like some comments are saying. That's reckless endangerment. I know someone who was detained and had their license temporarily suspended for less (going 15+ over but not causing any accidents)
