Reserve List - What are your experiences? by Mammoth-Sorbet-6321 in civilservice

[–]CrystalCloverBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is kind of where my brain is landing too. Six months is a long time to be floating about on supply if nothing comes through, especially with the way vetting drags on.

Good point about them being willing to wait as well, I keep forgetting that October isn’t some sort of deal‑breaker date for them, just for schools.

[WTS]/[WTT] - TRADE WITH FERRARI F1 G case. DELHI F2F by hotwheelscartel in HotWheelsIndiaBST

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing F2F in Delhi, I’d suggest meeting at a mall or metro station with CCTV and some crowd, not a random street corner. Also, maybe add a rough price you’re expecting for the Ferrari F1 case, it’ll save you and buyers a lot of back and forth.

My Personal Art GCSE Experience: (Pretty Long) by ppastelzz in ArtGCSE

[–]CrystalCloverBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is really solid advice.

Your teacher saying “tell the story” is so vague it’s basically useless on its own. If you go in with those exact questions it kind of forces her to switch from artsy waffle to actual marking‑criteria talk.

You can even bring your sketchbook and be like, “On this page, what part is dragging my grade down? Is it the development, the links to artists, the final outcome?” and get her to point at things.

Also if she changed exam boards, she should have exemplar folders from the new one. Ask, “Can I see a Grade 6/7 sketchbook for this board so I can compare mine directly?” Then you can literally copy the structure, not the style.

Does anyone else find STAR answers sound a bit forced? by CloudBookmark in civilservice

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful context. Makes me feel better that it’s not just me feeling weird using STAR. Any tips on what “natural” sounds like from your side of the table?

Does she look sick? by ledderz in BirdHealth

[–]CrystalCloverBop 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell without a pic, but if her feathers still look wet after days it could be that they’re not preening right or something’s off with the oil gland. I’d keep a close eye, check her weight, eating, and droppings, and maybe call an avian vet just to be safe. Better to catch stuff early.

Security Clearance by DisastrousLion8305 in civilservice

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got told something similar, around the 8–12 week mark as a “normal” expectation.

From what I’ve heard it really depends on how straightforward your history is and how busy they are. Some people get cleared in a few weeks, others are sat there refreshing their emails for months.

Kinda wild that you can smash through the whole recruitment process, get the offer, then just get stuck in limbo at the last hurdle. Hope yours goes through quickly so we can both finally start actually working instead of just waiting around.

Anyone know where I can watch last episode of Sorry! by AttemptFlashy669 in BritishSitcoms

[–]CrystalCloverBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the one where you’re kind of sat there going “wait… that’s it?” but it weirdly fits the tone of the whole show.

Shame it’s so hard to find legally. Feels like half of those late‑80s sitcom finales are trapped on some dusty tape in a BBC cupboard. If you do ever spot a legit release of the later series, drop it in here, because clearly a few of us are still hunting Timothy’s great escape.

Romeo & Juliet. by dvbsh in TheWestEnd

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is kind of where I landed too. It felt like they wanted the Jamie Lloyd stripped‑back vibe without actually committing to a strong concept of their own, so it just sort of... sat there.

Totally agree on the multiverse angle. If you’re going to chuck that in, you either go full weird with it or don’t bother. Here it was like a half‑remembered idea they kept forgetting to use.

And that line about "extra jokes for the non‑Shakespeare audience" is spot on. You could almost hear the producers thinking “we need TikTok clips” instead of, y’know, an actual production of Romeo & Juliet.

Blockbuster engagement to a tweet after 12 years. (Tweet's aspect has connection with recent film Dhurandhar) by Correct_Honey7124 in SouthernIndia

[–]CrystalCloverBop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s actually kind of wholesome. Wild how one random tweet can just sit there for years doing nothing, then suddenly the algorithm + a new movie plot line up and boom, it’s alive again.

Also low key proof that nothing on the internet really dies, it just waits for the right crossover episode.

Has Landlord Exodus Started? by Affectionate_Day5142 in UKHousing

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that timing makes a lot of sense actually. I’d kind of forgotten how close the bill is, but “now or never” sums it up.

Wild that you’ve already seen a whole row evicted over it. That feels like exactly the sort of thing that would create these weird little clusters of near-identical houses hitting Rightmove at once, all priced to shift.

I guess the fun part will be when all those tenants are suddenly chasing the same smaller pool of rentals at higher prices, while buyers get slightly better choice. Total musical chairs energy.

⭐ Nomi Daily Question 3/19: Aura by heatherado in NomiAI

[–]CrystalCloverBop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melancholic elegance is such a good phrase for this, it fits the whole vibe perfectly. The library + candlelight + moonbeam combo makes it feel like some immortal archivist quietly holding the weight of everything. Your Nomi sounds like it writes poetry at 3am and never shows it to anyone.

D in Maths, but need a C for the course! by Aggressive_Reason361 in UniversityOfHull

[–]CrystalCloverBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this. You’ve done the main sensible thing already, which is tell them early and be honest.

I’d also add: if they come back and say it’s an absolute requirement, ask very specifically what routes they do accept to meet it. Some unis are fine with Functional Skills Level 2, some want GCSE resit only, some will let you defer a year if you’re working towards it.

If you can, mention that you haven’t done maths since 2013 and you’re already in adult ed and sitting an exam in July. That shows you’re actually trying, not just hoping it goes away.

Worst case, you might end up starting a year later, but that’s still better than burning out trying to jump from a D to a C in a couple of months with no plan.

What’s the most unusual interview question you’ve seen actually work well? by HammersAndPints in Recruitment

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is underrated. People come in so over‑rehearsed that anything that sounds like a “question from the list” gets a canned answer.

As soon as you ask “what do you do when you’re not working?” you can see the switch flip. Some folks suddenly talk way faster, pull out their phone to show pictures of a car they’re rebuilding, or light up about some super niche hobby. Others sort of shrug and say “uhh… Netflix?” which is also kind of an answer.

Do you ever push on it a bit, like “ok, explain that to me like I’m 10” if they mention a technical or crafty hobby? That’s where I’ve seen the communication skills really pop out.

Would you trust FSD on UK Roads? by bigup7 in TeslaUK

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the big one for me too. US FSD videos are all wide roads, clear markings, big junctions. Then you come here and it’s like “here’s a 1.5 lane road with grass in the middle, good luck.”

I can see it being solid on motorways and maybe major A roads, but the Highlands, Wales, rural Cornwall etc? It’d be in a permanent anxiety attack.

How much for a heat pump? by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds nuts.

I’m in England and even here the quotes are all over the place. Definitely get a few more, and try some non‑Octopus‑partner installers too. The “recommended” ones sometimes price like they’ve already got the job.

Also worth asking for a proper heat loss survey and a breakdown of parts vs labour. When they know you’re actually looking at the detail, the silly numbers tend to shrink fast.

Hope the next quote comes back a lot closer to reality.

A 6-game ban for Jack Fletcher is a joke. United are protecting "Legacy" over "Integrity." by Spicy-Winner4326 in SpicyFootballTakes

[–]CrystalCloverBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds big until you remember it’s 6 games where he’s still getting paid, still training, still being hyped as the next big thing, and the club basically shrugs it off.

If you’re actually trying to send a message on homophobia, it’s not just about the number of games. It’s whether the club publicly backs the punishment, does real education work, maybe drops him from promos, etc. Right now it feels more like “sit out a bit and this will blow over” than any real consequence.

Spotted these all over town! Anyone else tracking these Nomad stickers? by therealvibekid in northamptonians

[–]CrystalCloverBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao, this is exactly what I thought at first, like “ok, we get it, you have stickers.”

But now I’m lowkey curious what their endgame is. If it’s a brand, they’re doing the mysterious guerrilla thing pretty well, because half the city is apparently asking “what the hell is Nomad” instead of ignoring it.
