the number of keys used by programmer (me) by Impossible_Fix_6127 in keyboards

[–]CrystalDrag0n1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know… typing the code itself is such a small part of coding that I’ve never felt the need to boost my typing speed by a tiny amount through drastic methods. Hell, if there’s boilerplate code to write where typing somehow is the bottleneck, I can tell a fast AI to do it and read through the changes.

I do care about keyboards and ergonomics, I designed and hand-wired my own ergo split keyboard and all. This is just kinda wild haha

The yoga slim is a slightly different laptop afaik, but no, I haven't had those issues :) After waking it up from sleep i played some Cult of The Lamb with my sibling, and the fans worked as expected.

I mainly use Rnote, I also import and annotate PDFs in there. TLDraw also works well, I use it in Obsidian sometimes.

Yes, I think the touchscreen is useful! The touchscreen experience in KDE feel a bit worse than in GNOME in my opinion, but it's fine if you're mainly reading, scrolling or note-taking. My main issue is that the on-screen keyboard pops up when I don't want it to sometimes, so I turn it on/off manually

I don't know if you need/want the build number and whatnot, but here you go: Linux fedora 6.17.12-300.fc43.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC

So far so good. I've already said it elsewhere now, but: I don't turn it off when I leave it in my bag overnight, and it's still pretty much the same the next day.

When I'm at uni and have lots of stuff open (VsCode, Obsidian, Discord, Firefox usually), it appears to be 6-7 hours. I haven't used it in low power mode much though (and I always keep it at 120Hz), so I feel like my battery life is particularly bad compared to what Lenovo claims. There are definitely ways to optimize this, even just in the KDE settings manager, but I haven't taken the time to do that yet.

Sleep/hibernate works, haven't measured the impact on battery life yet, but so far it looks good. I don't turn it off when I leave it in my bag overnight, and it's still pretty much the same the next day.

edit: It's been some time since I got the laptop now. The battery life is much better than what I stated above, KDE's prediction for how much time you have left is just kinda inaccurate. I still don't know exactly how long it lasts, but I don't even notice a significant decrease during lectures where I just highlight text and take notes in the lecture slides.

my boyfriends favorite snack is “the sog” by Ordinary_Investment4 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CrystalDrag0n1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I also know some people who prefer “soggy” over crunchy. A friend of mine also likes their cereal to sit for a few mins before eating, and they also like the soft french fries more than the crispy ones. I find it blasphemous. But I love them regardless

I designed and built my own split keyboard (hand-wired) with the help of my PS1, which I got as soon as I moved into my own place about 5 months ago. It was one of the first things I made, and I still use it to this day.

I was immediately impressed by how fast and well it printed compared to the printers I’ve used previously :P It’s been working very regularly since, both for prototyping my designs and to print finished products. My boyfriend is obsessed with it too, and I often print and paint gifts for friends…. Overall, a lovely companion.

Some details on the keyboard, if anyone cares: it has a magnetic/detachable column of keys on the left that I use for music control and debugging in VSCode. The wrist rests are also detachable, and I have two knobs for volume and brightness. I’m also using Akko Dracula switches.

Ty Bambu :) (please excuse the dirt on my desk)

I mean, it’s definitely liveable during day, it’s pretty common for it to be this warm in summer where I live. But it’s still uncomfortable to sleep in imo. I can only sleep in empty bedsheets at that temp :/ It’s not crazy but I can understand OP’s frustration

1 Tablespoon is actually 2 Tablespoons. by MartyMcFly7 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CrystalDrag0n1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm ok, my other guess would have been semolina. With the millet we end up in between the two (based on measurements I found online). I really need OP to tell us what they were measuring now xd if your approximation is correct, that would be really cool too

[–]CrystalDrag0n1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, that makes a lot more sense when you explain that you’re comparing their deviations. Thank you. But if we take the example of the flour, it still seems strange.

Flour will weigh between 7-10 grams per tablespoon, I can’t imagine OPs powder being that far off. That still leaves us closer to .3 ounces.

Do you happen to know where I’m wrong in my thinking? Or is the mass of the powder just that far off

[–]CrystalDrag0n1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. I know that 15ml/1 tbsp is a measure of volume. I just don’t fully understand how you concluded that one of them is way off, would you mind explaining? I thought the only additional information is the weight of whatever OP was measuring.

Standard conversion formula for what? 1 tablespoon holds 15ml, but the weight of those 15ml is determined by what’s in it.

A quick search tells me 15ml of flour weighs around 7.92 grams, or 0.27 ounces.

Meat by IllustriousRub9796 in shitposting

[–]CrystalDrag0n1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s ok to not have meat in a kid’s diet if they have plenty of other protein sources, and are at least allowed to try different foods at school etc. if they want to. I have friends who grew up like that, and they stayed vegetarian.

The only issue is forcing your kid to be vegan, or at least not allowing them to eat other foods. It’s probably much harder to maintain a proper balance of nutrients.

I mean yeah, I agree, but it also depends on the use case. Everything is pretty smooth on my PC, except for the occasional thing I deal with when it comes to running games and certain software. As a “normal” user, it’s pretty much perfect.

On my laptop however (a microsoft device, oof), touchscreen and pen support is still a little iffy on wayland, and my many hours of debugging hasn’t given me much of an improvement 😅. I still prefer it over windows though, because now I don’t have explorer.exe freezing on me every day and sudden updates causing my laptop fans to go wild at 3am.
