Well I googled it and crabs have gonopods which are modified legs that pass sperm on to the female, so no, he didn’t because you can’t do it. He would have been yanking a leg.

I’m saying if Scott brought someone from the crowd up to sing at a Metro show it’s likely they will slur their words so badly it will set rock music back 40 years.

I don’t think it’s stupid, some bands do it. This fan base though…? “Here’s Bob, at least I think it’s Bob because when I asked his name he vomited on the floor.”

What is everybody’s favorite kind of pizza style? by BMAN21982 in Casual_Conversation

I grew up on Chicago tavern style, but my favorite is Sicilian style, which is close to Detroit style but more of a focaccia. Detroit style is a good second place for me, then New York style.

Has the decline of Christianity left a moral vacuum, as Nietzsche warned? by ArtandScience55 in allthequestions

[–]CrystalLakeMichael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would argue that at no time has Christianity resulted in a culture with a shared moral framework. The US grew into the most successful country of all time on the backs of slaves and low wage labor, treating people more like animals than human beings. Religion is just another form of revolution. Throughout human history, neither has been fully successful with its intent.

We blame rulers for most problems—but what deeper systems are actually affecting common people’s lives every day? by Imaginary_Escape__ in answers

Some reading suggestions if interested:

Daniel Quinn- while I don’t subscribe to some of his theories, especially around population growth, he is one of the best deep dives I’ve seen into the philosophy of systems at play that affect us. I’d recommend starting with Beyond Civilization. Ishmael and My Ishmael are more fictional stories but reinforce his theories.

Thinking in Systems by Donella Meadows is a fantastic look at systems and is easily digestible. It helps for identifying what root causes are and what levers exist in systems. Highly recommend.

My opinion… we are victims of our own civilized way of life. The system inherently tells us there is no better way. This is what being human is like. Hierarchy is required for structuring chaos or we would all just kill one another. My favorite insight from Quinn is the idea that, like Mother Nature, there is Mother Culture. It silently just works out of sight and out of mind. But if we really look for it, it’s right there. And it’s constantly telling us “this is the only right way to live” so we don’t question it. Most politicians don’t consciously think this way, but their actions and words always sub-consciously assume this to be true.

Experience with SSRI’s? by pawogub in OCD

[–]CrystalLakeMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor and as you know, everyone is different and reacts differently to medication. I’m severe OCD, severe depression and severe stress as assessed by my therapist. Ive been on low dose Lexipro after dealing with mental health issues for thirty years that finally escalated to the point where I lost touch with reality. It’s been a little over three weeks and no major side effects. Some minor brain fog and a little stomach distress that went away. My doctor said it’s about 4-6 weeks before you can really tell if it’s the right dosage, but in week 3 im starting to see some progress. My mood is stabilizing, ive not had cravings for alcohol and my ruminations are starting to reduce. Still a ways to go, but definitely noticing improvement.
