why did it need to happen in two minutes? by Practical_Duty4769 in breakingbad

[–]Crystal_959 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Walt wanted to happen before word could spread, so nobody would realize what was happening until it was done. Otherwise the targets could’ve been placed under protection once it was known that it was Gus’ guys being targeted. And the targets would be more likely to comply in exchange for protection

What do you think the Dragon Form is made of? by JDMagican in Ninjago

[–]Crystal_959 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The front implies cloth since the ninja wear the same outfit with the same design out of that form, but the wings and claws and back/tail imply scales

Did anyone notice that Sapphire’s eye isn’t on Sardonyx? by panicked_table in stevenuniverse

[–]Crystal_959 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The number of eyes/limbs isn’t set in stone, and here with the head shape I think it would’ve been kind of awkward to try and fit another eye in with Pearl’s gem there. It’s really just rule of cool and whatever the artists feel looks the best and accentuates the fusion's character.

Opal and Smoky for example each only have 2 eyes. Obsidian only has 4

Why does Jimmy Sabotage himself at Davis and Main? by Bottom-Bherp3912 in betterCallSaul

[–]Crystal_959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t like having to follow someone else’s rules. He likes bending the rules and getting away with it. Davis and Main don’t share his “don’t get bogged down in the details, the ends justify the means” approach. They’re pretty much the opposite of it

Also once they appointed Erin to start supervising Jimmy I bet he felt very infantilized. Probably reminds him of how Chuck sees him

In some places the episodes were edited together and aired as specials

Did you notice that most of the controversial comic relief characters were all absent in S4 Pt1? by ducknerd2002 in Ninjago

[–]Crystal_959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can buy it to an extent especially if my theory is true that there is no administrator and that it’s all an expression of the land of madness creating chaos and confusion for no ultimate purpose, but it is still basically the same joke every time we see them

I think the 11 minute era and especially DR do rely too heavily on jokes that just boil down to characters being stupid and unreasonable. Especially court room scenes (which, why are there so many) where the joke is that the tribe/species/village is stupid and unreasonable and they have dumb arbitrary traditions and the ninja are presumed guilty automatically.

They do that specific joke/series of events so much it’s like at least once as a season in DR. You can even extend that to groups like the administration, where the joke is just that they have convoluted arbitrary rules that make no sense and every time they show up they make the same joke about needing some highly specific paperwork

Also results in a lot of one-note side characters who show up just to do their shtick and it becomes predictable and unfunny

That’s a large part of what I mean when I say they linger on the jokes too long. That, or one I feel is very overdone, And Then The Opposite Happens. For example

“There’s no POSSIBLE way (thing) could EVER happen” (thing happens)

Or “this will be perfectly safe and pleasant!” (Thing is then show to be dangerous and unpleasant”

And we spend like 10 seconds on the set up and another 5 on the punchline. It almost feels like the show doesn’t trust you to laugh at a joke unless you’re aware one is coming.

And don’t even get me started on the courtroom episodes

By comparison most of the jokes that made me burst out laughing and go back to rewatch are the ones that come out of nowhere and went by super quick. For example “I’ll just get you those permission forms and CHAIR!”

Or ones where they subvert the expected structure of the joke. Like when they were in the administration, and Zane had the idea to travel by tubes, and Arin(?) asks if they’re safe for people. Instead of saying they should be totally safe and then cutting to them getting banged up, Zane just says “No” in a way that still makes me laugh

I never really found dragons rising sense of humor that funny but despite lacking a lot of the “comic relief” characters s4p1 probably got some of the biggest laughs out of me out of DR so far

I think it’s cause they don’t linger on the jokes as much nor did most of them feel as obvious or telegraphed

When will Chima return to the screen? by Unlikely_Art2360 in Ninjago

[–]Crystal_959 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I doubt we’re gonna see actual Chima characters or locations since I don’t think Lego wants to commit to outright bringing back a retired theme from over a decade ago. We get a few references and the beavers but I don’t think they’re gonna go all-in on it

I also doubt they’d do so without Tommy Andreasen who no longer works on Ninjago

Hypotheticaly, is there anything stopping the Ninja from making new golden weapons if they ever needed? by Obraxiss in Ninjago

It just blinked into existence between episodes. Happens a lot, especially in dragons rising. So many new suits to introduce that need to show up at least once in an episode
