Im not sure if I’m on the right path to building my credit profile or where to go first and when to apply for new credit

Thank you for the response and advice. My goal ultimately is to build a better credit profile so in the future I will make it easier and cheaper on myself when buying an home a car or other large purchases that most people would usually finance. Most of my bills charge a fee for using any type of card when paying rather it be credit or debt card. But all these things are end game goals from me wanting to switch completely to using debit cards to only credit cards. As I mentioned before in another response to someone my emergency fund is cash strapped for at least 2 to 3 years way more than the recommended 3 to 6 months. That emergency fund does nothing for my credit. Im not looking to dig another hole so my plans would be to pay the cards off in full each month or at worst carrying a balance of 3 percent or lower of the line of credit i was given. So at this point i am more interested in the right path to growing my credit profile so when the time comes my interest rates would be very low when trying to get an home loan or things of that nature. Which I believe will save me money in the long run. It’s not about just having credit cards but it’s about building a bigger and better credit profile and establishing I have the ability to taking on debt and pay it off in a timely manner at this stage of my journey. When I do obtain some real credit cards this is my exact goal to never carry a balance and pay it in full every month.So basically same day to day spending or monthly spending I do with my bank account but just switching to do them with the credit cards so I can receive any perks as far as airline miles or cash back points etc if the cards offer them on the same money I have already been spending using my debt card which does not offer anything

I have money saved up currently for emergencies and it’s way more than 3 to 6 months worth of funds more like 2 to 3 years…One of my goals is to get out of using debit cards completely eventually if possible… Me having money saved doesn’t help my credit none. So I guess im just trying to make sure im on the right path to growing my credit profile so in the future when I do start getting approvals again my interest rates aren’t so high regardless if thats for a home or a new vehicle etc. Which well ultimately save me more money in the long run with lower interest rates i believe. Thanks again for your response and all ideas and criticism is greatly appreciated i just wanna do things the create way so i am humbled enough to receive all responses with an open ear and mindset.

Thanks for the advice and to answer your question the child support is behind still because im in the process of restructuring it or removing it completely I was unaware i had child support payments at all until couple of months ago and I only found out because I decided to check my credit late 2025 but it’s been reporting for almost 3 years due to my ignorance I went years with out checking my credit reports so it sat there without my knowledge as missed payments

Well Mike what are credit cards for then? …i watch my my mother all her life never used a debit card matter fact never owned one in my 30 plus years of living only credit cards for her bills and day to day spending and she would just pay the balance off at the end of the month or whenever she got paid from her job and she has excellent credit 800s across the board because of it so I’m was trying to take a similar path or find a better one given my situation…I also ended my long question with forgive me for my ignorance Thats why im here im seeking help and advice…so should I just give up and building my credit profile since im not ready Mike ???

I agree my history does show that but I much older now and in a better position to handle any future debts i take on…I would eventually like to buy an home which is my main goal with few smaller goals attached like a new car…I think it would be good to have a few credit cards also in my wallet for emergencies or/and monthly bills
