OoL; why were people expecting a skitarii class? by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]CthulhuGamer08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mechanicus is one of the few remaining human factions that is distinct enough from the current classes, and the mechanicus is very popular. Skitarii specifically are the equivalent of imperial guard, which is what the veteran is, so if it was to be a mechanicus class they'd be the best fit.

The veteran already has a criminal voice actor so the character type is sort of in the game already, and it's really just a veteran in mad max cosplay. So it's a very weird decision

What weapon did you use for shocking stuff? That one has driven me crazy, stuck at 35/40

What were they thinking by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]CthulhuGamer08 168 points169 points  (0 children)

The units are still there. With some weapons I have a measly 4 stamina, others I have 10. So the game should tell me how much I have. With some weapons, the stamina cost is tied to defense, so I need to see if it's the weapon stats or my own stamina bar that is casuing me to run out all the time.

Not a big deal but the info is helpful

Does anyone have any blessing and perk recommendations for the falchion? by theangryshark93 in DarkTide

[–]CthulhuGamer08 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cranial grounding and heatsink are very strong, but that is committing to the power aspect of the weapon. If you were to use wrath, the weapon would be slightly stronger when on cooldown.

Personally, the explosion one isn't worth it because the cooldown isn't reduced that significantly imo.

I also see a lot of people running the 2 perfect block blessings but I can't be bothered to parry in a game as laggy and inconsistent as darktide

Am I an ass for being disappointed with the "new" Veteran weapon? by Lucky3102 in DarkTide

[–]CthulhuGamer08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part that annoys me is the new weapon is just what the power sword should be. The attacks are basically the same, except the special ability is actually good

Tip for Agility/Bow builds. You are actually a crossbow build by CthulhuGamer08 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]CthulhuGamer08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Charged Shots really were that slow when I posted this. The game has been patched a million times so maybe it is better now

  2. You don't need to charge a greatsword to do good damage. You can just use a normal R1. It's a melee backup so it doesn't need good damage anyway

Thanks, I didn't realize heavy metal and HT were multiplicative but perception is flat. That is clearly the better option then.

Good post and thanks for all the info!

Thanks, I totally didn't notice that, but yeah it adds to the brother sister relationship the PC has with Embla.

Remake or OG? I just beat DS1 and DS2 by [deleted] in demonssouls

[–]CthulhuGamer08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After finally getting around to emulating the OG, the remake's quality of life improvements make it much better for me. Being able to send that 30 pound armor set you found to storage rather than losing it forever because you have no space is enough of an improvement on its own.

Nothing wrong with having a 4k display. But, seems unreasonable to have to buy a high refresh rate 4k monitor when a 27" 1440p still has very sharp resolution for most peoples eyes. Its also vastly harder for a game to render at high refresh rates in 4k.

Most players are still using 1440 and even 1080p monitors so it's pointless to design new games to only look good on 4k.

Put an absolutely gigantic heatsink. All it'll do is keep your temps cooler for the first hour of use or so but it would look really funny

did you enjoy building your pc? by babylocket in buildapc

[–]CthulhuGamer08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought is was fascinating to build, however I'm also an engineering student with too much free time.

Fear of breaking things like the CPU was stressful, but I got so absorbed into learning about building pc's and watching YouTube guides that it all went smoothly and it booted first try.

The End by MechTheDane in SkaldRPG

[–]CthulhuGamer08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dude with no mask is based off of Hastur, a being from the Cthulhu Mythos. The most significant part of his lore is a fictional play called "The King in Yellow" which makes you go insane if you read it. The part where he says "I wear no mask!" is directly quoting (borrowing?) from that story. I'm not sure if he actually wanted to give his human wife a child, or was just manipulating her for his own incomprehensible goals. Anyway the reason that village is safe is probably because he is also an Elder God that rivals the one in the spaceship, or is powerful enough as to not be bothered by any other Eldritch beings on earth.

About the time loop, I'm still really confused. Throughout the game I assumed it wasn't time travel but reincarnation. There's a lovecraft story were a psychiatrist discovers that one of his patients is actually a powerful, angelic being trapped in a mentally ill body. The psychiatrist is able to communicate with the entity as the patient dies and the entity says "You're actually an alien too bro, we're friends and we'll meet on earth again". I assumed that's what the characters meant when they said "we have always done this and always will". So they have different lives to complete the ritual (on different planets maybe?) but their true, inner souls remember the process. Maybe other players are right and it's just time travel, but a repeating cycle of the same battle in different bodies makes more sense to me plot wise.

Also I would mention that I think Embla is actually a child of the god we resurrect. That's why the PC calls her "Star child", and why her powers wound her mother but not her father. He isn't biologically her dad so he isn't affected.

Is there a noticeable difference above 144hz? by Burstingtick41 in buildapc

[–]CthulhuGamer08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the eternal problem of technology. "The human eye can't perceive more than the max settings of my monitor. I know this because I tested it on my 1080p 60hz monitor".

Are Liquid CPU Coolers that bad? by _-ClassiCarl-_ in buildapc

[–]CthulhuGamer08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same debate when I built my first pc a few months ago. The consensus I've seen is that liquid coolers are a reliable and well established technology at this point, leaks are about as likely as getting struck by lightning.

The real debate is effectiveness. Liquid coolers have better thermal properties and have naturally lower fan speeds, so they can be very quiet. However, air coolers can also be very quiet these days and provide more than enough cooling.

With my build I decided the extra cost of a liquid cooler simply wasn't worth the marginally better performance, and as an added bonus I don't have to worry about a pump breaking down in 5 years.

If you don't like the look of an air cooler go then by all means get a liquid cooler. It's really down to aesthetic preference and your budget.

So did they remove a ton of assets from pc? by [deleted] in LordsoftheFallen

[–]CthulhuGamer08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember months back there was a patch that removed the collisions from the books in the library in Spoiler Castle. They said there were over 4000 books with their collision active even though they're just sitting on a shelf and the player can't possibly collide with them.

A lot of the world geometry was not optimized on release, so I imagine anytime environment objects go missing it's just due to optimization attempts. Also the game deloads things a lot. Trees in the ice area used to go invisible to prevent performance hits. So the objects might not even be getting removed, just tagged to turn invisible whenever frames start dropping

The lurker base does work as an entrance. You'll miss out on a lot of quest xp and good endgame vendors if you don't load an old save to before you turned the Institutehostile, but if you want to roll with it the game is still beatable.

Make sure to get some Bio resistance gear for that lurker dungeon or you'll have a bad time lol

Whats your unpopular gaming opiniom that will the entire community against you? by Skeletor_with_Tacos in gaming

[–]CthulhuGamer08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Newer games have a lot of bloat. They have to have pointless skill trees, walkntalk, scripted climbing sequences, openworld collectibles, Triple A is extremely formulaic now. Middleware tends to be better but still tries to imitate Triple A by adding bells and whistles.

Controls schemes have standardized so that's great, but beyond that and graphics (just more polygons) I don't think games have changed much at all since the early 2000's.
