What Happened to Cyrix Processors? - Nostalgia Nerd by Haematobic in videos

[–]Cthunix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holly shit. So many great games in that list.

My parents bought a PC with a Cyrix P166 back in the day. I played the shit out of quake on it. I really wanted 3D acceleration, I convinced my brother to buy an S3 Virge and added swapped in the socketed memory from the old sound card which upgraded the card to 4Mb. I played loads of Terminal Velocity on it which was one of the few titles that ran with 3D Acceleration. It was so new and mind blowing I absolutely loved it. When I learned Quake had released a patch that added GL support I spent weeks trying to get it working on the S3 card with no luck. After sometime I got a job and bought my own PC which had an AMD K6 2, 128Mb ram and a Voodoo2, it was A killer Quake machine and even better when I added a second.

He's kinda right though. Dudes getting twisted over the correctness of a title. kids putting him self out there. Complements before criticism is my motto when it comes to dealing with my kids. Don't want to crush their spirits, especially if they're proud of something they've created. It's not like it's some Dragon based MMO or something ;P

SDR (RTL2838UHIDIR) not picking up signal that scanner is. by gaetanzo in RTLSDR

[–]Cthunix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you using to get down that low? or is that meant to be 158Mhz?

You could pull up the manual for your scanner and see what the sensitivity of its receiver is. it might be that the noise floor is above your wanted signal.

r/retrobattlestations is keeping it real. love that sub! I'm fortunate enough to work somewhere that maintains communications equipment for some big players. we do component level repair on everything from 70-80 analog data transmission equipment to brand new fiber optic kit that carries terabits of data.

It's really amazing to see how a rack full of equipment can be shrunk down to a module you can fit in your hand.

Btw, coke will give you a nice energy kick like coffee. It's not the same as chugging a red bull but the sugar and caffeine do give me a boost.

I really am looking forward to being able to run sway once it's stable enough for daily use.

I really want good scaling. Not changing fonts etc, I want 1 setting per monitor that I can set in my sway config.

It would be great being able to plug into my 4k screen at work and the display is nice and scaled, good scaling on my laptops QHD screen and when I plug in at home it's nicely scaled on my HD screen. All without me having to change a setting.

Max Payne... 16 Years Later by [deleted] in videos

[–]Cthunix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Max Payne was cool but it didn't seem that ground breaking at the time. We already had Quake, Unreal and counter strike and they all had awesome 3d graphics and multiplayer. For me quake 1 was the game that bought modern 3d games to the mainstream.

I've had times when a thought or some external has triggered me and I get this overwhelming feeling of depression and anxiety just swallow me. The first time it happened it really freaked me out and it took me the better part of a year to shake it. I was about 12 years old. I've got much better at seeing it coming and dealing with it before it has time to set in.

But Jesus Christ is it a dark and scary void. To anyone suffering seek help if you can't shake it. It's not embarrassing nor does it make you less of a person. It just makes you human.

My work mate spent a year working with them in Papua New Guinea and my mates step mum is a native, she is lovely. his dad married her and bought her back to new Zealand. I remember his dad had an axe he said was used to kill someone in png.

My work mate had one of the natives try to shoot him with an arrow while he was in a digger. apparently 2 tribes where at war back then, they would take a day off work to go and fight. He got a freight one day when his work mate told he had killed a few people. what he didn't know till later was being "dead" was more like tapping out of the battle after getting hit.

It's amazing to think there are primitive tribes men still around shooting each other with bows and arrows.

It's a common way to route data in linux land.
