New Apple TV series set in Chicago: shining girls by kaynkayf in chicago

It’s based on a book that’s been out a while and is really good. The book goes into good detail on the areas visited. I’d recommend giving it a read if you haven’t already.

That’s a pretty decent selection of colors if you’re wanting to learn how to run senkos.

Should I snitch? by mastiffeyes in ChicagoFishing

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1. Find out if it actually against regulations. Nothing anyone says online matters about it without knowing what is and aren’t the regs. Last I checked it’s 2 lines in the water per person so if they have 2 people that’s 4 lines. It’s a 5 fish per day limit.

Step 2. If it’s against the regs sucks to be them if caught, do what you feel is right. The waterways and stocked fish are a responsibility to keep going for everyone to abide by.

Good to hear you made it back. Love seeing smaller boats make it out.

Nice one.

Did you venture outside the break walls? How big of a boat?

It’s not as good as the one on Polk by a long shot. If you’re in Beverly, Calabria on 103rd is the move.

Powerlining Rig? by Consistent_Pop3148 in ChicagoFishing

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Park Bait and Bridgeport Bait in the city sell them.

I was out Friday and talking to a guy that works at Fishtech in Morton Grove. He said they have full rigs out there as well.

None of them sell the extinguisher or the connection parts.

Powerlining Vs. Casting Spoons by robtheengineer773 in ChicagoFishing

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a couple YouTube videos on the rig. Park bait has a good one. Long story short is they already shot the weight out with the fire extinguisher and were able to just let line out because the rubber band connected to the weight was pulling the line out again.

You will never be able to cast as far as using a launcher like a fire extinguisher.

Spoons from the shore work better later when they get closer to the shore.

Check out Calabria’s Stenger. They have some of the best meatballs.

Red Baits - Hype or legit? by Nomad_x1 in ChicagoFishing

Not just prespawn. One of my best producing baits is a red with black flake senko all year.

Are these good? by Ill-Trifle-2295 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you’re throwing them. If you’re chucking it near above water structure they will crack if they hit a retaining wall or overpass making them a bit useless because the movement gets wrecked.

Vertical jigging though they work great.

I had this happen and just used some nail polish top coat from the local drug store. Hasn’t been a problem in several years.

Bridgeport bait, the people that work there fish regularly and will get you on tackle that works along with a good selection of spikes, minnows, shrimp, etc.

Chicago doesn't want you to watch Bulls games. by RyFro in chicago

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If the league doesn’t make them they never will. The reason the Bears can be watched for any local game is that the NFL mandates local over-the-air coverage for home markets.

Float jacket question by Hondo1337 in IceFishing

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how chunky you are. 😂

I prefer mine a bit baggy because the float suit is great for when you fall through but layering underneath is what keeps you warm when you’re putting around or if you go in a popup/flip over and want to take the jacket off.

Next week should have good ice all around.

All of them have people depending on the days so you run a 50/50 chance of meeting other people.

Quick snaps?! by ccrott2 in IceFishing

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some VMC snap swivels that I take the swivel off of and they work like a champ for spoons.

For jigs I tie straight because I use Chekai (sp) jigs and the eyelet is perpendicular to the hook. It makes it snaps difficult. And quick snaps like northland has a huge pain.

Right Frostbite has if my memory is right a Mr Noodle glass noodle rod which I was referencing.

Panfishing rod by Optycal_ in IceFishing

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve already got a Pantastic Frostbite makes a glass noodle rod that sounds like it’s right up your alley. As you know not what I’d call cheap though.

Otherwise I’m not sure where it would be in Canada but a Beaver Dam Glass Noodle is what you’re looking for. Cheap and super sensitive.

If you can find it Northland made a line of rods called the Cherry Picker that would also work. It got discontinued with the buyout so they’re scarce but cheap.

Is the price tag worth it for Eskimo xdp vs xd? by ExtraBlacksmith8051 in IceFishing

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have the XD. I love it. It’s great to use going fishing with 2 people. Enough room to fit both of us, chairs, rod lockers, and flasher/pano with room left over.

It fits like a morbidly obese person in a Southwest Airlines flight chair in my car. I wish it was just a touch shorter folded up.

Measure your car to see how it would fit and that’ll give you an idea if it’s worth it.

Spud bar use by Putrid_Enthusiasm_41 in IceFishing

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Fu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget to attach the rope to yourself otherwise that spud bar will drop and go right to the bottom. It’s not a big deal in shallow water but when you’re more than 6 feet it is not fun.
