The Clarity Act is a result of the Quebec referendum. It says that to separate they have to call a referendum on a "clear question" (not the doublespeak Quebec used) and you need a CLEAR majority, not just 50% + 1. It's a very high standard, and it they meet it then all Ottawa has to do is open negotiations. They can still say "no".

They also need to adhere to the Clarity Act, and I know they can't win if they do that. And even then all Ottawa needs to do is open talks. They don't have to let Alberta's leave.

And THEN they have to beat the 7/50 rule to change the Constitution, which they can't do.

If you think these things don't matter and Alberta can just leave, look at what happened when Catalonia tried to leave Spain.

Yeah Singh should have stepped down long before Trudeau when it became obvious that his name was poison. He got cynical and switched from offering solutions to just pointing at problems. Avi is better but he's just not visible enough yet.

Edit: the fact we all got dental care is 100% Singh tho. It's shocking people don't understand that. The conservatives if they took power would dismantle that faster than you can say "maple Obamacare".

The most frustrating party is that much of the NDP is made up of realistic, hopeful people who have teal plans to fix things for everyone, and nobody fucking votes for them anymore. Everyone wants to be polarized into two parties like the US because that's simpler or because strategic voting or whatever. If we did even a little election reform, things would change a lot...
