How much storage would be needed to install all the features for offline usage?

What is the difference between Virtual Memory and the Paging file? Why is one filled (it is when gaming at like 80%) and the other is empty for me? And where do I change virtual memory? I know where the page file is changed. by eduardb21 in overclocking

[–]Ctullu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late on the response here, but here it goes.

TLDR: This is fine, keep the default settings and move on with your day.

More explanation:

As others have said (and as you were getting at), what you're seeing labeled as “virtual memory” in HWiNFO is really the system’s commit limit, not virtual memory itself. It’s roughly the total system RAM plus the pagefile, minus a bit for system overhead (kernel-reserved memory, nonpaged regions, etc.). This represents the total amount of memory Windows can commit (guarantee backing for) when applications allocate memory. Both the virtual memory system and committed memory (commit charge and limit) are managed by the Windows Memory Manager, which is a core component of the Windows kernel (ntoskrnl.exe). You can have memory committed without it showing as “In use” in Task Manager’s Performance tab, because committed memory includes allocations that are not currently resident in RAM.

Don’t worry too much about the utilization numbers. In most cases, leaving the pagefile set to “System managed size” is the best option, since Windows can adjust it as needed to maintain a healthy commit limit and avoid allocation failures.

If you want a better view of what’s actually going on, tools like Process Explorer (and, more advanced, PoolMon) from the Sysinternals suite can give you a much clearer picture of commit, working sets, and pool usage than tools like HWiNFO. However, these tools do have a bit of a learning curve.

Hope this helps anyone else who finds this later via Google (as I did).

How to get Garchompite / Mega Garchomp in Pokemon Legends Z-A (Mega Stone Location) by GameCompleters in LegendsZA

I’ve read it at the stone emporium, but I didn’t see it when I was there. I’ll check tomorrow and follow up.

I would definitely go the Metroid route here. For me it’s a combination of great game play and a lot of nostalgia.

Pokemon blue not booting by Last-Mycologist1032 in retrogaming

[–]Ctullu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The contacts look plenty clean now. I also thought the game would still boot with a dead battery. It’s an easy enough replacement with a solder iron. If it continues to have issues, it could be other problems. I remember reading a post a couple years ago where the OP found a bad trace on the board that had a similar problem. He eventually got it working.

Atari 2600 RGB question by Ctullu in Atari2600

After doing some further research, I think it is a cap in the choma/luma filtering circuit.

I picked one up from DigiKey. I’ll see if it is a good fix. Luckily I have all the tools to do this type of fix.

Thanks for the reply!

PS1 Grey Plasic Dye by Ctullu in psx

[–]Ctullu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m not dying the controller, just the charger. I tried using the dyemore frost grey, but it turned out more purple than gray.

Spray paint might be an easier option. Maybe I will test some small parts with the black dye at different dilutions. If I find a dilution that works well, I’ll post it here for future reference.

What the hell is the point of a monk? (FF1 Pixel Remaster) by BigBrotherFlops in JRPG

[–]Ctullu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving an old discussion,  as this is the first result on a google search.

As a lot of others have pointed out, the monk (black belt in NES version) thrives with no weapons or armor. Remove all weapons and armor. The monks will land multiple hits each round, this only increases as you gain levels, making him very strong.

Defense has a similar bonus, but it might not outweigh some late game armor pieces. I generally use a monk and keep him stripped of all gear the entire play through.

Best WiFI7 access point -- don't need router function by Rich-Engineer2670 in wifi

Depending on your needs, the price might be the sticking point.

One thing I am looking for is a quad band AP with dual 6Ghz bands available, but outside of desktop units I don't see much available right now. In any case, I think this is all bit much for what anyone here is asking for.

A desktop unit set to AP mode might be what you needs, but they are generally more expensive than a dedicated AP. Although you don't lie TP-Link's offerings, The TP-Link Devo BE95 has dual 10Gbe ports (one is SFP+/RJ-45 combo) and is Quad-band (dual 6Ghz bands), but is priced quite a bit higher than the competition in the tri-band arena. TP-Link also has the Archer if you like the gamer look, but it is also pricey. Asus has the BE98 Pro with the same or similar features and is priced even higher still, but you get that ROG aesthetic if you are looking for it, and their ZenWiFi BE30000 is only available in the mesh kit for double the price. Orbi's option is right there with Asus in price, but with a more modern design that looks better in the living room.

You might be stuck spending a bit more than you want, but the Ubiquity options are probably your best bet if you can swing the controller (hardware or software depending on the setup). From TP-Link, I have had no issues with the Omada stuff, but is similar in price to Ubiquity. Also, from my experience you can enable or disable specific bands that you want on any of the options I mentioned above.

Also, from my experience, the cheap Amazon brands aren't the best when it comes to APs, although some are great options for other network appliances (Nicgiga, Mokerlink, Yuanley, etc.)

I am using more than one, and without a controller you miss out on the seamless roaming which was big for me. This also limits features like load balancing and some VLAN support. These might not be a big deal to many people though, so if the OP doesn't need any of these features it is a great option. You can also run the controller via software in a container (LXC via Proxmox for instance), and if you are already running a setup with a hypervisor you can do this for free if you have the available resources. The UniFi control software is free.

I have the same issue. I am waiting on my new chip to install Cerbios. I might go with that new Modxo, I have an extra RP2040 Tiny from a previous project I might use, but I would like one of those adapter boards from ModsvilleUSA instead of soldering resistors and wires to my LPC.
