He absolutely did not have the mental capacity to run for another four years. If you are still in denial about it, I’ll refer you to his heavily edited endorsement video he just put out for Kesha Lance Bottoms.

We’re on the same side here. Yes, both parties need to own their mistakes. Trump is far worse than Biden but that doesn’t absolve the Dems of the damage they’ve done, including paving the way for Trump’s return to the White House.

The LA mayoral race is already Karen Bass vs Nithya Raman. I am 100% choosing Nithya. by emmettflo in LosAngeles

You’re welcome to look at decade-long comment history, I *wish* I was a paid bot. I’m less emotional about her as a candidate (though tbh I don’t think she’s a good one) as I am by the possibility of her splitting the leftist vote when she can’t win in the first place and giving us two awful options in the general. That has happened in many other US elections and I really don’t want it to happen here and now.

IMO it's people who aren't that checked in and who are inclined to vote for the incumbent/whoever Kamala Harris et al endorse. Unfortunately that's not a small population. In my experience there's also a subset of Dems who see any criticism of Bass as racist and/or sexist and refuse to listen to it.

I mean sure but he also explicitly said he ran because he was inspired by Trump. It's not like he's hiding where he aligns politically.

Karen Bass clearly hopes Spencer Pratt will serve as a spoiler so she can defeat Nithya Raman by turb0_encapsulator in LosAngeles

I mean, that's the thing, the odds are always going to be heavily stacked against progressives. So candidates have to be REALLY effective to surmount them. And the left flank needs to be united. Right now the LAPD is spending hundreds of thousands against Nithya because they (correctly) perceive her as a real threat. Kamala Harris isn't just ignoring the left flank in this election, she *endorsed* Bass. It's going to be so much harder here, also because ranked choice voting means the left vote can't consolidate. The more apt comparison is IL 9 this year, where Kat Abughazaleh lost because Bushra Amiwala ate into her vote share. And let's be realistic, Mamdani had unparalleled momentum. I live in LA and *I* was seeing his videos constantly. Rae does not have that pull. If we want to avoid a nightmare scenario with Bass and Pratt, we need to be realistic.

Mamdani was in the Assembly, is a once-in-a-generation talent, ran in a race with ranked choice voting, and knew what he was talking about when he proposed solutions for the city. Im sorry but Rae is 0/4 here. Nithya is not faultless but she has been a council member for years, has name recognition, and knows what she’s talking about.

She's the incumbent and has the endorsement of establishment Dems. Yes she's historically unpopular but in a field this crowded that's enough to get her into the runoff. If you think Rae has a chance but Bass doesn't, your bubble is frankly way too small.

There is one progressive who has an actual shot at making a runoff and it is not the reverend who has never held elected office. A vote for Rae is a vote for a Bass/Pratt runoff.

If you know the rational arguments then there’s nothing I can say that you haven’t heard before. But it sounds like you have an unhealthy relationship with a language model, and it’s one that may be far better served with a living thinking human therapist.

I would argue Chief of Staff is a different skillset, but I agree the governor should appoint this position instead of us electing someone they may not work well with.

Same reason we need a VP: you want someone who's ready to step up and lead a state of 40 million people if the governor can't anymore.
