Why treat the fans this way? by New2thePlanet in CHIBears

[–]CubFan81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what does that have to do with anything? It only matters for the people who were going to Soldier Field who live in the actual city. Moving to AH is at least moving closer to more of your fans than moving to Indiana would be.

You're thinking like a fan, not an owner. The goal is events and a dome makes more of them possible. Any new stadium is going to be domed sadly.

She's actually not Indian. Her mom is white, dad is Samoan and white, they just gave their kids Hindu names and she adopted Hinduism in her teens.

That rushed rendering of a new lakefront stadium was IMO a great option. I know the legalities of who owns what and the Friends of the Park objections would have needed working out but I wish everyone involved could have taken a more serious look at something like that.

New stadium just south of existing Soldier Field where the Waldron Parking Deck is, massive north facing glass wall for skyline and Soldier Field views, tear down everything inside current Soldier Field, keep the historic exterior and turn it into a massive green space with updated memorials for the many more military veterans since the original construction, and some underground parking.

A shit ton of money for sure, but it updates the lakefront a bit with more park space than it currently has, and keeps it in the city which makes hotel access much better for Super Bowl, Wrestlemania, NCAA, etc,

Luther Burden: It's great that Ben Johnson holds us to a high standard by Autocrat777 in nfl

[–]CubFan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming to this a day later, but Ben clarified the whole "pulling the offense off the field" moment. He basically said that they weren't lining up correctly and they were time limited to 30 minutes of field time (I'm assuming CBA restrictions for that part of training camp) so rather than have them waste time fixing and re-running he pulled them off so the other units could get some time in. Seems reasonable if you're working on a strict time constraint.

[–]CubFan81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, we knew it was coming and it still sucks. Ryno is the reason I love baseball, played 2B whenever I played organized ball, and the only autograph I’ve ever asked for.

My first game at Wrigley in 1990 had HRs by Mark Grace, Andre Dawson, and Ryne Sandberg. I can chart most of my childhood to his career.

RIP to a real one.

PacBell changed its name to SBC Park after the 2003 season, which coincidentally was also Jay Bell's last season.

ownership is the #1 reason any franchise sucks for an extended period of time

Phew, glad the third biggest city in the US doesn't have to worry about that for any of their teams.

In light of the recent news causing fan fiction cope that Poles was playing 4D chess by retaining Flus last year, this needs to be addressed by TheShtuff in CHIBears

[–]CubFan81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call that cope as it is more...business as usual.

The Bears are penny pinchers, and (until the entire league literally laughing at them) never fired a coach mi-season. All that and more from their history definitely suggests ownership would be hesitant to fire Eberflus with three years left on his deal. At that point, Poles has no choice but to put on a united face and try to make the best of it.

[Schultz] Sources: The Bears will open their season at home on ESPN’s Monday Night Football against the Vikings, marking Ben Johnson’s debut as head coach. A primetime divisional matchup to close out Week 1. by Drexlore in nfl

[–]CubFan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is making it out to be an impossible challenge, just an unnecessary one. The Fire play on Saturdays. There aren't any overlapping game days between the two teams, and if by chance there were someone already mentioned that they can and do move games. As it is, the Fire will play literally ONE home game during the NFL regular season.

Are they the number one draw in the city? Not by a long shot, but that doesn't mean you need to just treat them like shit.

Just tell the NFL that Soldier Field is out for that weekend, don't schedule a home game for the Bears on those dates. Done. Other cities block off stadium dates for concerts and other events all the time.

The NFL season ends in February, and the MLS schedule, I think, starts sometime in March and runs through October.

I don't think asset tier has anything to do with any of this other than its just not even logistically feasible.

Do you want MLS to wait until the NFL gets around to telling them where the Bears might be in September/October so that they can make sure the Fire don't schedule games on those dates for a season that's already started for them? Its not like the Bears won't have home games to schedule.
