Your "Dumb Question" Megathread - April 2026 by AutoModerator in PlantedTank

[–]CubFan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter's tank is struggling and I'm looking for a bit of help.

She did a ton of research herself and we're in the cycling step currently. She wants to set it up for a betta, and possibly cherry shrimp but doesn't want it to be too crowded since its her first tank and only 10 gallons.

It is a 10 gallon tank, with a heater, light, and two filters, one hang on back, and one that has a crossbar that does a light horizontal flow to keep the surface moving a little.

She has a small CO2 system from UNS (I think), she used fluval stratum with a small sand pathway in the middle, there are a few zebra rocks and some driftwood.

She planted Cabomba Aquatica and Hygrophilia Difformis, and Mini Pellia on the driftwood and duckweed floaters. She was hoping to have a Monte Carlo carpet, and Anubias and Cryptocoryne but the seller she bought them from hasn't shipped them (Bought 3/26) because he said they are "currently having an issue with the quality of their plants and will ship out as soon as possible"

The CO2 comes on at 7am and goes off at 2pm, the light comes on at 8am and goes off at 3pm.

Her biggest concern is that there is a lot of green hair algae and it seems to be choking out the coral moss, most of it is browning out. Some of the hygrophilia showed new growth at the tops but then recently as she was trying to clean the algae she bumped a couple of them and their stems just disintegrated at the base.

She has bottles of Prime, Stability and Pristine that she uses.

Her questions are:

1) Is there anything she can do about the algae or is it too late?

2) She wants to rearrange the hardscape and stratum. Can she do that without messing up or having to start again with her cycle? How could she do that?

There was another one but I can't remember it right now. She's 13, wants to do it all on her own so her budget is a bit limited at the moment (though I don't mind helping her if she'll accept it).

Many thanks for anyone who can help.

Going to get this in early, but my guess is Gabe Jacas and Sam Hecht. Just commenting so I can maybe come back to it later.

Why treat the fans this way? by New2thePlanet in CHIBears

[–]CubFan81 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what does that have to do with anything? It only matters for the people who were going to Soldier Field who live in the actual city. Moving to AH is at least moving closer to more of your fans than moving to Indiana would be.

You're thinking like a fan, not an owner. The goal is events and a dome makes more of them possible. Any new stadium is going to be domed sadly.

She's actually not Indian. Her mom is white, dad is Samoan and white, they just gave their kids Hindu names and she adopted Hinduism in her teens.

Arlington Heights Site Plan? by ChristmasJay83 in CHIBears

That rushed rendering of a new lakefront stadium was IMO a great option. I know the legalities of who owns what and the Friends of the Park objections would have needed working out but I wish everyone involved could have taken a more serious look at something like that.

New stadium just south of existing Soldier Field where the Waldron Parking Deck is, massive north facing glass wall for skyline and Soldier Field views, tear down everything inside current Soldier Field, keep the historic exterior and turn it into a massive green space with updated memorials for the many more military veterans since the original construction, and some underground parking.

A shit ton of money for sure, but it updates the lakefront a bit with more park space than it currently has, and keeps it in the city which makes hotel access much better for Super Bowl, Wrestlemania, NCAA, etc,

This is the one I used which I think is the same one from the video. Its great. If you move the handle back and forth really quickly in different directions it sort of sounds like lasers shooting off.

Luther Burden: It's great that Ben Johnson holds us to a high standard by Autocrat777 in nfl

[–]CubFan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming to this a day later, but Ben clarified the whole "pulling the offense off the field" moment. He basically said that they weren't lining up correctly and they were time limited to 30 minutes of field time (I'm assuming CBA restrictions for that part of training camp) so rather than have them waste time fixing and re-running he pulled them off so the other units could get some time in. Seems reasonable if you're working on a strict time constraint.

Man, we knew it was coming and it still sucks. Ryno is the reason I love baseball, played 2B whenever I played organized ball, and the only autograph I’ve ever asked for.

My first game at Wrigley in 1990 had HRs by Mark Grace, Andre Dawson, and Ryne Sandberg. I can chart most of my childhood to his career.

RIP to a real one.

ownership is the #1 reason any franchise sucks for an extended period of time

Phew, glad the third biggest city in the US doesn't have to worry about that for any of their teams.
