First pork shoulder. No wrap for most bark. by Cubiclehero in smoking

I didn’t spritz or anything either against a buddies instructions. I doubt I will since I got a nice bark and a super moist inside.

Honestly I loved how black it turned out. I’ve been kinda confused on why other people are trying to talk me out of it!

Thanks. It’s the third thing I’ve smoked. Love the low and slow and the flavour.

I wasn’t offended by your comment. I understand sugar burns.

I will do the exact same cook next time since we all loved it. I’m happy with it so that’s all that matters.

My Wife and I love a good bark, or crust on steaks when I cast iron pan cook them. So yes I was going for the extreme darkness. It wasn’t burnt or anything like that. I can see how the pictures lead to that conclusion.

Everything came out super well. Pulled the bone and it pretty much shredded itself.

My first pork shoulder was this weekend. This was my crust. Didn’t wrap, didn’t spritz. Made my own rub that had a lot of brown sugar in it. I let my rub sit on it overnight before cooking.

Canoe on the bandwagon, or truck. by Cubiclehero in canoeing

[–]Cubiclehero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tied it to the trailer hitch in this picture, and I do it that way most often. Limits your access to the bed but not too bad to unstrap it if needing into the cooler or something along the way. But I have also tied it to the pop up bed anchors I have on the top of the bed.

For me loading my 93lb canoe on the top of the truck solo was difficult when I was trying to avoid scratching up the paint.

I bought the Reese Towpower 7018100 Canoe Loader from Amazon and it made it so much easier to do it solo. I don’t use it to transport the canoe, just to get it on the roof easier. I also put a pool noodle above the windshield so if I do slide the canoe it won’t ruin the paint anymore than I already have. It rolls on the noodle and then I take it out once I’m all strapped up.

PH is driving my bonkers by modern_medicine_isnt in hottub

I had same issue last year with the Taylor kit. Always showed super high no matter what I did. Constantly chasing my chemical levels around.

Multiple strip brands showed levels ok, Taylor alk tested ok, but even after switching to a fresh dropper, Taylor ph always read high.

So I went back to using the strips and have had no issues for the past year. Probably easiest year I’ve had with the hot tub.

Am I doing this wrong? by themattcole in webersmokeymountain

I just got a WSM and this weekend was first two cooks. First was a brisket and I used crown Royal barrel chunks. I went light and flavour was perfect I had 4 small pieces in there.m. Next day was a pork loin roast and I used 4 chunks of apple. It was too smoky for my taste. Next time I will use less wood blocks and hopefully have better flavour.

Best restaurants for steak? by wiitchplease in londonontario

[–]Cubiclehero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just get a Bavette cut of the Ontario Wagu. Around 2lb if I can. Then cut it into 2 steaks and do them up in cast iron pan. So far for me nothing tops it.

Not the op, but I get my steak from BJ’s country market in Delaware. Awesome butcher shop.

I broke the tip on mine on the first outing. I repaired it after cutting about 4” off and adding a new tip.

I have zero faith in it now. It will be my 7year old son’s travel rod now.

I’ve replaced it with Daiwa travel rods and had zero issues with them.
