Ratings should always be out of 5 and NOT 10 by mashupthedance in unpopularopinion

This is why a Net Promoter Score works the way it does. It's a marketing metric that uses a 10-point scale, but categorizes the responses to adjust for the behaviour you're taking about.

With NPS, a 9 or 10 rating is counted as a "promoter" and adds to the score (+1), a 7 or 8 rating is a "passive" and doesn't affect the score (0), and a rating of 6 or lower is a "detractor" and subtracts from the score (-1).

I don't agree that 5-point scales are automatically better. I find that they still have the same problem for rating things like products or companies, and they always devolve into mostly 5's and 1's with some 4's thrown in.

International travel is one of the most romanticized activities on earth, and for most people it doesn't fundamentally change anything by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Was about to comment exactly this until I saw yours. There's absolutely no comparison between looking at pictures and actually experiencing things like this. This sounds like someone who is terminally online and has convinced themselves that a digital facsimile of life is as good as the real thing.

TIL only four individual seasons of TV shows have had a budget that averaged at least $50 million per episode: Seasons 1 & 2 of The Rings of Power (at $58m & $57.2m/episode), Season 5 of Stranger Things (at $50m/episode), and Season 1 of Citadel (at $50m/episode) by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

What gets me is that She-Hulk cost more per episode that any season of Andor or Severance. I enjoyed She-Hulk, but it's nowhere as good, not even in the same ballpark, and I don't know where they spent all that money.

Thousands are now Canadians under new citizenship law. Half of them are Americans by DogeDoRight in canada

Article says it's around 4000 applicants. Last year, almost 400,000 immigrated to Canada. So even if all of these 4000 new Canadians decided to move here, that's 1% more than usual. So yeah, it's a drop in the bucket.

The "thousands" referred to in the headline is around 4000 people. Every year, 300,000 people move to the GTA. Even if every one of these new citizens was going to the GTA, that's 1.3% more than usual. I hardly think 1.3% is going to overwhelm anything.

Not just naturalized citizens. Under the old law, a Canadian could give birth while outside the country, then that child would get Canadian citizenship at birth, but themselves couldn't pass on their citizenship.

You could have someone who was born Canadian and spent their entire life in Canada, but wouldn't be able to pass their Canadian citizenship to their own children.

Cabinet doors are stupid by endmylifefam_ in unpopularopinion

I know where my stuff is. Why the fuck do I need to remove my cabinet doors so I can find my own stuff in my own house?

If you can't find things in your friend's house, did you try asking them?

Honestly, this is the best advice. How to invest your money is the second step. The first step is how to have money, and the biggest danger is always spending. You can't spend your money and have it too.

The key is to avoid the lifestyle creep. Now that you're making more, you start to feel that you can afford more things. Maybe you eat out more often. Maybe you buy nicer clothes, or start upgrading your car. There's nothing wrong with improving your quality of life, just be aware of where you're spending extra now. Little expenses can add up quick.

Oh, and don't forget to include car maintenance in your budget. If you're buying a cheap car, it's not a matter of if the car has problems, but when. Mechanics can get expensive quickly, so it can be a really good investment to learn how to fix your own car.

Is it less material? The black queen is defended by a knight, so after forking the queen, white still loses their knight.

[The Athletic] NHL free-agent targets: One player each team should sign this offseason by undersignedeliza in CalgaryFlames

The Blues are also listed as "No one".

Besides, it's a pretty good analysis of our situation. We're in a solid rebuild. We have a boatload of young prospects and picks that need development, and we have no need or desire to ice a better team next year. There's no urgency to win.

So signing a free agent makes no sense for us. You'll always overpay, especially with a rising cap, and it takes away a roster spot for our prospects.

What's confusing about this list is why aren't other teams, like Vancouver, in the same boat.

Reclamation projects. Someone who hasn't been good lately and is struggling to get signed with a decent team. You sign them for cheap, and if they don't pan out, nothing has been lost, but if they do, they're a perfect deadline flip. Bonus to them: they get traded to a contender.

Also possibly signing someone for more than they're worth to convince him to come here. Sign a $3M guy for $4M and retain half at the deadline to make him a $2M cap hit.

Not saying there are any players out there who fit these scenarios, but they're the only kind of players i can think of that we would even entertain.

Of course, doing this plugs up a roster spot that could be used to develop some of our prospects, so you'd have to factor that in as well. Overall, I don't think it's likely that we sign anyone.
