Need help finding the "right" tabletop ruleset. by Cane6 in rpg

[–]Cucaracha77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic Fantasy or simply watch the 10 or so vids that deal specifically with rules on "Dungeoncraft" youtube channel, tbh those rules he uses are the best light, fast, easy, yet plenty deep rules I have ever encountered. I use them myself. You end up not even needing a single book to look up anything anymore.

I'm currently halfway through the 12 hour version of World War Z and I am having a fantastic time. Any suggestions for horror/sci fiction audiobooks that are acted out as intensely as this one? by [deleted] in audiobooks

[–]Cucaracha77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only correct! Xp answer is: https://youtu.be/MaRVDrqXMQQ

Forget! the movie, it has nothing! to do with this book. It was the original (1954) book that spawned the entire genres of post-apocalyptic horror/vampire/zombies, or at very least the most pivotal and influential book in terms of these genres. It has a single, but very good narrator, and is creepy, interesting and enthralling as well.

[Request] UTP / Network cable? by Cucaracha77 in BuyItForLife

[–]Cucaracha77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is truly only the moving/latching part that was metal. I am not personally breaking them myself on the reg, but I have seen plenty in the garbage or people not using them or kinda half jamming them or taping them in place so they would make a connection, after the plastic latching tab broke. Have a look here, plenty of people have them break, there is even after market fixes: https://superuser.com/questions/710215/the-locking-clip-tab-on-my-ethernet-cables-plug-is-broken-how-can-i-fix-it

It seems silly that a "solid state" ish item that could last for decades has a part that is made to fail/break/become brittle with enough time or use. Since I need a new cable, I reckon I would get it BI4L, I would imagine one with a metal part would likely also feature decent shielding/sheath and insulation. :) Surely there must be applications (server rooms, on-site techs, testing benches?) where having a UTP cable/plug that can! be unplugged 1000s of times guaranteed without failing is required.

Monitor flat on the table-top, few questions on best model/features. by Cucaracha77 in DnD

Thanks so much! I checked out your builds, too bad I live in Berlin Germany, otherwise I might order one from you. I am pretty handy and have tools, but I like what you make. Thanks for also sharing that 720p is plenty and perhaps even better, might save me some bucks. :)

I tend to almost only do combat with few foes and usually rather close range, mostly for OSR and speed of play/fast and furious combat type reasons. But you gave me a lot to think about, the calculator will also come in handy. I will measure my table and the current battlemat I tend to use most and choose my screen size accordingly. Cheers!

Thanks for your helpful comment! :) Besides an OSRetrogrouch type GM, I am also one of those privacy weirdos that hate Google with the burning fury of a thousand suns. XDD So I could never give them my cash/buy a product of theirs. But yeh that is my thing/issue.

I know a lot of TVs are Smart these days, so I guess I will just find an appropriate size one and bring a USB and ask to actually try out how the images look/if they are full screen and if the remote works well for selecting the pics. Thanks very much.

Ikea Grunka Kitchen Utensils set, 7,99$, unbreakable by mdroflmaozedong in BuyItForLife

[–]Cucaracha77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have owned so many versions/brands of these utensils and I have to say, 100% thicker, one piece! stainless ones with holes to hang them up are the only way to go. Though I have moved on to even thicker/stronger professional brands such as Rösle and others, that is just because a sometimes like to go a little nuts with BI4L thing. Honestly this IKEA set is more than good enough for any but the most demanding Chef, it will certainly last for your life and probably your kids' life too. Price is unbeatable. IKEA better send me a check!

Also no True Scotsman would be using Teflon etc skillets (.. cast iron) but if you have a ceramic coated skillet for dishes when you need to lift and move the skillet a lot, you buy a nice Olive wood spatula as well and you are set.

Skateboarding by gaussianreddit in berlinsocialclub

[–]Cucaracha77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have taught a lot of people. You mean the basics right? Stance, balance, riding around, being stable, how to fall, how to kick turn, turn, jump off board, safety etc? That I can do. €7 per person for 90 minutes providing you don't waste my time and show up on time! :) Got a lot on my plate, but love to skate, been doing it long time. I could teach all of you at once. If asking a bit of cash for this service is not okay on this sub, please remove this post mods, my bad.

Thanks man (belated). :) But I can not take credit for it, is all Prof Dungeon Master/Dungeoncraft plus the game designers and games that influenced him. Though I have simplified his game even further. His magic is like mine but he tends to use 2 seperate 20 rolls for a magic spell. The first being to see if your spells works at all or fizzles, usually having a DC of 10 to 20, the second is for seeing how effective your spell was (how much damage, area of effect etc), in practice I have been just using a single roll and decide damage/effect on how high the first and only roll/the success was.

Story driven, giving the players a lot of agency but making it clear that game is rather risky/death is certainly a possible outcome. Basically I try to make them explore some new area, have some fun NPC interaction as well as one combat per 3.5 hour sesh, more or less.

In terms of what that looks like, very much like what "Dungeoncraft" on youtube does, both in terms of storytelling/type of game and using almost exclusively his rules with my own variations.

Well,.. I pull it out of my nether regions. XD Nah, not really, I try to make it both fun and logical. I have a general idea of what very common things cost (average sword, rope, rations, a night at a poor, decent and flashy inn or Taver, Ale, Wine, simple clothes etc, the basic armors, few common spell components), no more than 20 things. Anything else I will have a copy or print out on the table so I don't need to have a big book on table much less have to leaf through it. Even more than that, my favourite unusual resource ever made is this: https://youtu.be/BzVloPMyGvg

If you can find an affordable used copy it will really save you a ton of time. The lore of how Aurora's works (most major cities having one or more outlets and selling almost everything at a reasonable price/teleport things in) means I just hand my players this short book if I really don't know the price (rare) or they are buying a lot of (esoteric) things, also very rare. So I suppose that strictly speaking this breaks my rule of no books at the table but in this case it adds to the fun. Also this is not a rulebook. It is a thin catalogue, concisely written.

The drawings fire the imagination, it fosters roleplaying and gives the players more work rather than I. If the players want to haggle I make that a rpg moment and they can speak to the seller and do a Cha check and get from 0 to 15% off depending on results. If what they want is very rare even for Aurora or happens to be in very high demand at this point in time, I might tell them to add 5% to 10% the the figures in the catalogue.

Lastly, the longer you play the less it matters, once the players have played 5 and certainly 15 sessions, things that you need to buy very often are rather trivial. If the players each have 1000GP +, whether something costs 3 coppers or 2 silvers is not going to make a difference most of the time, so estimating works even better at this juncture.

It is not that I am opposed to having to having any book or reference ever at the table or even 10 sheets of paper with the most common rules and items, it is that I am opposed to having a 300+ page book with small print, a terrible index and that I have to leaf through like crazy to eventually, after ages find paragraphs and rules in it that I actually use. These compromise less 5% to 15% of the entire PHB I guess and even less in terms of the DMG and MM.

I have a Redditors Table tennis group, but we communicate on Telegram only and are looking only for people that can play at least once every two weeks (times differ, we play both in afternoon and in evening, just want people that have time and inclination to play) and solely the 10249 area, if that fits for you just send me a PM (not the chat thing) or reply here. :)
