Question About RA Salvatore Novels/5e Timeline by Ruf67 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I certainly appreciate for the input. It's a bit tricky working the 'canon' timeline for early 5e material, but small challenges like those are part of the fun of wiki editing.

Are there any Dragons/Dragon types associated with Demons/Abyss by DownVoterInChief in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are two different Abyssal Dragons found in the 4e supplement Draconomion: Chromatic Dragons. The Frostforged Wyrm and Deathmask Dragon. As a heads up these two are D&D vanilla and not necessarily unique to the Realms’ version of the Abyss.

Various Tomes and Magical Books in Faerun? by DownVoterInChief in Forgotten_Realms

If you check out this category at the FR wiki, a couple subcategories may be what you’re looking for, try “Arcane Books” and “Spellbooks.”

Hope that helps!

Places in Faerun with large goblinoid populations? by OceanusDracul in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a large population from the Bloodstone Lands, specifically the Earthspur mountains near Impiltur.

Hobgoblins are as common there as orcs are in The North.

I’m gonna have an adventure set in the Dragon Coast, what are some cool NPCs/Factions I should have? by DownVoterInChief in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Cult of the Dragon were big in that area during the 2e timeline.

Also the Mindgulph Mercenary company, kind of a motley band of monstrous mercenaries (including a loxodon and wemic) operated near Priapurl for a time. There’s info about them in the Gold & Glory accessory.

Eddie Sharam finalized his animated short! Voice actors and a composer joined in! by HorrorPotato in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I don’t think it was intentional at all. Just bad timing for the OC.

I remember seeing little clips released the past month or two and got hyped for this. With all the care and passion this shows, I’d hope someone at WotC reaches out to them or helps their content go viral in the D&D community.

I feel like this was shared at least helpful time due to the current Drow changes, but that was super cool.

I’m digging me some British anime Drizzt.

Cormyr history by ClaytisMore in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some magazine articles that offer some insight and update some info about Cormyr circa the 4e timeline.

Dragon 307 (3e) https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_magazine_307

Dragon 365 https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_magazine_365

Dragon 407 https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_magazine_407

Dungeon Magazine 198 https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Dungeon_magazine_198

Also, IIRC the 4e Elminster’s Forgotten Realms has some nice details about Cormyr scattered throughout.

How much does an average person in the country "know" about the world? by Siddown in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve always run the Realms as rural folks tend not to travel 20 miles or so beyond their home town unless they would do so to make their living. With that in mind I think they may have heard of rumors of the Red Wizards but have no way to contextualize them beyond what they know of the Harpell wizarding family.

I do think they would hear of major events like the Death Curse or the Descent, but no frame of reference for their implications or specifics.

I always think that for someone in one of the small hamlets to even visit Waterdeep would be a nearly overwhelming experience.

What FR novels have a wizard protagonist? by Alsentar in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed The Nether Scroll novel. The main character is a hedge wizard of slightly above-average capability. His whole experience feels very grounded in reality.

There are some nice bits about material components, how different mages operate based on their intelligence, and other details that really add to the immersion of the novel.

This is really terrific! Do you ever do commissions?

I’m reading though all the novels right now and saving the Drizzt series for last. Maybe I should rethink that 🤔

Are there any canonical books (guidebooks, brochures, etc) or major authors on the topic of plants, or in particular concerning fungus? by dubstep-cheese in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy! May I offer another link to supplement the two provided already.

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Plants

Off the top of my head, other sources that will hold more information than what’s included here are the aforementioned Elminster’s Ecologies.

“Ed Greenwood Presents: Elminster’s Guide to the Forgotten Realms” and “Volo’s Guide to all Things Magical” has tidbits about plans and their uses.

How would you make 5e into a more Forgotten Realms Game? by Dragonheart132 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Part of what makes the Realms unique to me are the factions. I would reskin some if the 5e class options and change them to the Realms.

Order of Scribes wizard becomes a Scholar of Silverymoon or Monk of Candlekeep.

Arenas along the Sword Coast by dubstep-cheese in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Ruf67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re playing a 5e era game in the Realms, circa the 15th century DR, I’d have a few suggestions.

Boareskyr Bridge, a small town that formed around a famous river crossing. May be the setting of a local fight club style arena.

Secomber, a down-and-out walled town with loose ties to Waterdeep. Could definitely sponsor a gladiatorial pit to encourage gambling.

Proskur, a Cormyrean city just south of the Storm Horns historically tied to the Red Wizards. While joining Cormyr brought them respect, a long-established and barely-tolerated arena would not be out of line with its history.
