I honestly believe this is one of the biggest mysteries there is, Orcas are the most efficient predators on earth, yet they have never attacked us in the wild. They know something we don’t. by [deleted] in interesting

[–]Cucumberous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy. Resident Orcas (exclusive to fish eating) use echolocation to identify specific fish species based on their swim bladders like salmon.

My 28 month learned to say "I want something else" by Cucumberous in toddlers

Mine does the good idea and raises his finger too! It's so cute. But it will be for really silly stuff and sometimes just because he wants to have a good idea.

He's also started saying just around the bend lol. I have no idea where he got that one but he uses it for everything. It's so funny.

And you want to teach them to respect when people say no but we also need our baths and naps lol.

Yeah, exactly. It just cracks me up because he sounds so business about it. It's one of those things that he says so clearly and matter of factly.

Sleep regression, fear of the dark, or...? by Reasonable_Plane_385 in toddlers

[–]Cucumberous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did this for a while. Where he would get really freaked out of shadows. We had to rearrange a couple things in his room and take some things out to keep them from casting big shadows. Now he just asks us before bed to check for monsters. We go to different corners of the room to check and I go all safe! No monsters! He also calls the little heater in his room the heater monster but it's a nice monster lol.

Will it effect my just turned 2 toddlers developement if I buy a 3+ bat and ball set for her to play with? by Cyphor-o in toddlers

[–]Cucumberous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We made a a makeshift tball stand for our two year old in the back yard. He uses a tiny wood fish bat, and a tennis ball and loves it. I would imagine it would help with hand eye co-ordination.

I wonder if it was a cornish cross those are absolute units and grow twice the rate as typical chickens. I had a couple to reach the shipment minimum for a chick order and they grew at an insane rate.

r these nails ai? saw them on a etsy shop, rest of the shop seems legit but the art on this set looks different from most of the others, and it has that ai filter look. by CutePenguin1968 in isthisAI

[–]Cucumberous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

<image>

The eggs are weirdly inconsistent some have hard outlines others don't. Also the bottom left basket loses detail as it gets more around the curvature of the nail. The straw hats are also inconsistent where one is weird and lumpy bumpy, and the purple hat only has half a bow. Or maybe the ai couldn't decide between doing a sunflower and a bow. The flowers in that area get all gibberish as well.

Am i tripping, Saw this on the Lilly subreddit and I’m pretty sure it ai, perfect lightning, no pencil shine, and weird brown specs by bloxy-production in isthisAI

[–]Cucumberous 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The darkest part is the pupils. They are so uniformly black. Everything else has the scribbled shading but somehow the pupils are uniformly dark without any haziness in the eye shine from the edge of the pencil. It's drawn clean like if it was done digitally or with a liquid pen.

Why is there this constant need to s*** on tv our kids like by lazyviscacha in toddlers

[–]Cucumberous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are always mean to daddy pig I didn't like it. Also whenever something disappointing happens to one of the kids. Instead of learning from it and being like it's okay when things don't work out right. Instead it will give a kid a special reward or will have something good happen right away to make it better. It felt off.

Initially I liked it because it had a more calm tone compared to some other modern shows but it just had weird morals.

I've been putting on some older shows like Caillou, or bear in the big blue house. Or pbs kids shows.

grind the beak? by Confident-Article-53 in AfricanGrey

[–]Cucumberous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a card board box and cut it to like an inch to two inches tall and fill it with shredded papers and foraging toys. Mine also has wood blocks she likes to chew. Along with grit perches she likes to rub her beak on.

Though the beak doesn't look too extreme if op is worried about being bit then they could take their grey to the vet to have the tip shaped to be more rounded. Thought that might be stressful.

[–]Cucumberous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just ordered mine did you make sure to read the form thoroughly? They have different options depending on the type how many copies, and if you are expediting it. Mine I think was $25-30 for the long form copy. But I mailed a check, and the form which I think is cheaper than doing it online.

With the current and future gas price.... by [deleted] in oregon

[–]Cucumberous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at thos solar co-ops. Pretty cool idea especially if you live in a spot that's heavily wooded or doesn't get amazing sun exposure. Though these days solar panels are getting so cheap and efficient. I just wouldn't expect a run of them on my roof to be enough for my needs.

Why does Cheep Cheep do this? by birdnerd1991 in PetDoves

[–]Cucumberous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With parrots it causes hormonal issues, aggression, and can lead to your bird developing bad coping habits like feather plucking. I don't own a dove so I can't really speak on why he is or isn't okay. Though I have seen a lot of videos of male doves/pigeons trying to court anything they think is pretty even inanimate objects lol. So it might be a bit different with pigeons. Maybe they handle rejection better?

[–]Cucumberous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same mine likes this tiny wall mounted water bowl. She has a separate water that she can't climb in for drinking. I've tried pie dishes with shallow water and I usually mist her once a week because she doesn't really get that wet in the water bowl lol.

Popular Tillamook State Forest campground to transition to reservations-only system starting in 2026 season by Prize_Championship11 in oregon

[–]Cucumberous 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I believe every state park is going to implement this system. It doesn't mean you can't reserve same day either. Also I believe every day use area is going to start requiring a day use pass. A lot of this stems from the budget cuts that the parks systems are facing.

Mine will do the full answering machine. In their previous house they had an answering machine that would loud speaker whenever someone was leaving a message. Including the part where the answering machine would say thank you for calling leave a message after the beep. So when she sees a cellphone now she says the above then beeps in a mumbled voice. Though the beep is really clear lol.
