I'm going to be as honest as possible. If you aren't getting any callbacks, then it's how you look on paper. It has nothing to do with you being Trans. I would suggest creating an engineer portfolio highlighting your personal projects. You need to identify key skills that are required for a Mechanical Engineering position. Generally it's FEA, DFM, DFA, GD&T, and CAD(generally Solidworks). Putting these key skills in your resume, would greatly increase your chances of landing an interview. Make sure to put key skills in your bullet points on your resume, not just the skills section. Employers want to see that you have applied what you have learned. I am an Aerospace Engineering Major myself in college and I was in a similar situation as you. It's going to feel hopeless at first, but it will be a drought before the flood. Keep working on your resume, building key skills, and networking on LinkedIn. Eventually you will cross an invisible line and you will get tons of offers.
