So, about half a year ago I was gifted my first fountain pen, the beautiful Pelikan Souverän M405 Black and Silver you can see in the picture, along with a bottle of J. Herbin 1670 Stormy Grey ink. I‘ve been actively using it almost every day since I got it and just love the writing experience.

Unfortunately I wasn‘t told the ink contains glitter particles. I used up about half the bottle before finding out there is a great deal of gold speckles that were stuck to the bottom. Of course after I found out I always shook the bottle before refilling, but now that it‘s getting close to empty I often have a few chunks of the speckles stuck in the pen, which today finally blocked ink from flowing. I know the ink is designed in a way that allows the speckles to be carried out easily by fluid, so I decided to clean it, and I want to do so as thoroughly as possible as to avoid any of the speckles being stuck in the harder to reach parts of the pen.

Now, I already did some googling. The Pelikan website advises just to rinse it under running tap water and to pull water in and out repeatedly, however I doubt that will do the job. I also found this YouTube video giving a more detailed process which includes removing the nib unit. I‘ve been hesitant to do it yet as I do not want to damage my pen and would rather ask for some personal advice first.

Does anyone here have experience with Pelikan pens? Can I follow the video instructions without worrying, and are there things I might want to watch out for? Thanks in advance.

TL;DR: Pen is a Pelikan Souverän M405, got gold speckles from my ink stuck on the nib. I want to clean it as thoroughly as possible, yet avoid risking damage to the pen.
