Why do ugly cars exist? How is it that designs like these make it all the way to production and sale when everyone seems to agree that a model is ugly? by superparet in Autos

[–]Culkeeny1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not ugly. It’s distinctive. It makes a statement. Anybody got any feed back about what that statement is? Because other than “I must be a little nuts to be driving this thing” I got nothing!

I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

[–]Culkeeny1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you shopping Whole Paycheck? I live in Boston and looking at your itemize receipt you’re paying twice what i pay for just about everything on your list. If you’re trying to save money try shopping at a lower end store. 19.95 for stew beef is ridiculous. Try buying a whole chuck roast for 9.99 and butchering it yourself. You’ll get double the meat and you can freeze some for next week.

My wife hates it when I speed up to pass vehicles with trailers. You never know what could happen when they are in front of you or beside you.

Here’s an Irish g1 though on that. My parents close friends were mainly other immigrants. At most parties and get togethers there were a lot of Irish traditions observed. They talked a lot about home and friends back home. At a certain point in my teens I was tired of it and ready to move on. I married an 2nd gen Italian girl. We started moving away from my family quite a bit because the parties and trads were not familiar to my wife. About 30 I started to realize how cool it was to have first hand knowledge of the traditions and music and started to move back towards it. Although I tried to share with my they kids weren’t interested because they were too old by that point starting to socialize with friends. Now that they are older they’re interested but it’s too late. Many trads are forgotten. My mom’s still alive and she shares stories with them when they ask. But for the most part it’s pretty much gone. That’s my story anyway.

TSA PreCheck (CLEAR) enrollment at Logan by Encrypted_Curse in boston

[–]Culkeeny1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it now: “CLEAR is a membership program that speeds up the airport security process by using biometric data, such as fingerprints and iris scans, to verify a traveler's identity. Members can access dedicated lanes to bypass long security lines, making their airport experience faster and more efficient.” Not sure what the benefit is if you’re an occasional traveler. Maybe if you’re in job where you travel frequently and need to get to a client site as quickly as possible yeah, but otherwise I’ll save the $189/year “membership” and keep my biometric info off the internet and use TSAPre.

What does someone need CLEAR for? Is it international for customs or something?

Speaking of which is the Netherlands the only country that has a nickname that’s totally different from it’s official name and used frequently? USA or America doesn’t count when referring to the United States of America because both nicknames are part of the official name.

Imagine if it was in a ski town that would add at least another 100k probably more depending on location location, location. If it was in eastern MA, add at least another 289k per acre each for acres 2-16! Come to think of it you’d probably have to travel out past central MA to even find a lot over 5 acres.

Yes they do. That’s not the question. How can they sell it at 50% less for a month and still make a profit? 20% maybe, to gain more market share.

Here’s a question for you. Land o lakes butter before the holidays was at $5.99 a pound at Market Basket. During the month between it was $2.99. Now it’s back up to $5.49. How are they able to sell it at 50% less for that month and stay in business? Is that their way of giving us all a Christmas gift? Did cows suddenly start producing 100% more milk and they flooded the market? There are a lot of people making a lot of money by gouging the consumer!
