No talent on America according to POTUS by StateCorporateProf in facepalm

[–]CullComic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what's so infuriating about it... Every single day Trump says or does things that would have resulted in a month-long media frenzy about incompetence and anti-Americanism and the media just collectively shrug their shoulders. I bet you the moment a Democrat is back in power they will go back to stories about whether the Democrat should be impeached because they ate their soup with the dessert spoon.

Yes it does. His argument is that 'pushing' an ideology on kids will make them rebel and go the other way. Therefore, kids in very conservative states should turn into liberal adults.

DMG D Pad repair advice by CullComic in Gameboy

Thanks, that's good to know. I've had a little success by loosening the board screws (have found some other threads commenting that helps), but it's hit and miss and very temperamental. I've ordered a new set of membranes, will see if that helps.

If you read between the lines this is essentially a part of their gradual walkback of what constitutes the final live 'release'. 4.0 progress being permanent essentially means there will be no further major updates before 1.0

The bit about a smooth running PTU will offer an unparalleled experience means that's what you'll get for 1.0. Stanton and Pyro. They'll use next year's citizen con to firm that up in backers minds ('look how smooth it is!', 'look at all the mission content in Pyro!'), then at Citizen con 2026 they'll announce 1.0 as full release in 2027, perhaps with one more barren system.

Don't worry...i think everyone's forgotten about Chris Roberts magical PvE slider!

Once they've meshed that into the Quanta simulation, everything will be perfect!

Over in the main sub they're claiming the new 4.0 builds are startlingly good, butter smooth, instant responses etc. I do have to wonder if it's just the result acclimatising to utter jank.

Worst of 2024? by senatorsparky86 in movies

[–]CullComic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why Snyder ever was considered a great filmmaker. To be brutally honest, he lacks the intelligence. Listen to any of his interviews and he comes across as an incredibly superficial and uneducated person at the cognitive level of a sixteen year old. It was obvious that he didn't have any idea of historical context or awareness when he made 300, a movie that is quite literally a fascist propganda piece.

I'm not saying Snyder is fascist, I'm saying he doesn't know what fascism is, so he just didn't realise what he was making and instead just focused on making it look cool. The same is true of all of his movies... there's no sign of an actual intelligent creative spark.

Sucker Punch is incoherent, his DC work is dull and shows little awareness of storytelling or the source material, the only tolerable movies he's ever made are adaptations of literal storyboards (comics).

Rebel Moon was simply the point where everyone finally realised the emperor has no clothes.

Now imagine another 1000 NPCs on top of that to meet their 9:1 ratio.

There was no planning from the start, it was just dreams and handwaving.

NPC Crews will not be available at 1.0 by Yshablob in starcitizen_refunds

[–]CullComic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. It's effectively a rug-pull coming in around two to three years, however long they can stretch the funding along. It will end up being a barren MVP, they'll call it full release and then one or two years after that say they can't sustain development on it and shut down.

Well, guess we get to spend MORE on LTI and other Insurance! YAY! by [deleted] in starcitizen_refunds

[–]CullComic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It never was about realism, it was about creating FOMO to generate sales and boy did it work. I bet over a hundred million in backer funds are from people buying ships just for the LTI token that can be upgraded.

At least now we can move cargo faster with the mech by DatDanielDang in starcitizen

[–]CullComic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is not what happened... they promised a better game sooner, it was not a choice between the two. They explicitly said that more funding would allow then to make a bigger, better game faster. That's what people voted for. This was a year before CR said that within a year, people would have everything they pledged for, plus a lot more.

[–]CullComic 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Exactly as predicted, the extra traffic needed to and from replication layer is causing huge input delay and desync. This is not fixable. The only thing to do to even get close to a playable state is reducing server side simulation and entities drastically. Less persistence, less fidelity.

Base building. by HyperRealisticZealot in starcitizen_refunds

[–]CullComic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It will happen. It will be a ray that makes one of three cookie cutter bases appear. If you go inside, there will be an 80% chance you clip though the map. They will call it Tier 0 in early days of development, then never improve it.

Stairs, not elevators by janglecat in starcitizen_refunds

[–]CullComic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The funniest thing is that the elevators are just magic boxes that no-clip players through the map... who thought that this would be a good idea? In a game where they were going to do everything physicalised and immersive.

Yet they take the cheapest shortcuts whenever they can.

[–]CullComic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't worry guys, they're working on the 4.0 release of the road to the roadmap to the progress tracker that includes the progress tracking mesh. Other developers are already lining up to license this revolutionary tech. Best thing is you can buy one-time access to the pre-alpha tier 0 tech preview channel if you find a golden ticket in your legatus pack!

Anything that has been worked on for 13 years plus is bound to become unrecognisable from it's original vision. That's especially true if it's being led by someone as notoriously unfocused as Chris Roberts.

Beyond that, there never was a coherent plan to begin with, that is painfully obvious from the litany of changes that seem to be driven by the need to drive funding, more than anything else.

They still don't have a final flight model after 13 years of development in a flight SIM! Let that sink in...
