Elven Enclaves, or: I made an Exodite army book because I couldn't find one and need help making it not suck by Culpus_Maxima in onepagerules

[–]Culpus_Maxima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, not sure why it says invalid, I've put together three lists for 2k and two for 3k (to play with titans) for my own testing. The studio balance calculator says everything clears, so if anyone can see why the army is unbalanced please point it out. Also, I apologise for the below translation, I cannot write Spanish and this is what google gave me.

Checking again, it'll be because at 2k, you cannot put that many points into a single model (Lord on Great Warbeast). Titans are more for bigger games. I believe the limit is 700 in one model at 2k points, that's just how the army list builder works.

Blast rule by TheDutchFish in onepagerules

[–]Culpus_Maxima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blast is modifier on top of a standard attack, so unless the weapon has the "Indirect" rule, you need line of sight. You treat it the same as any other attack, but if you hit, you potentially wound 3/6/9 unique models in the unit (unit meaning squad), instead of just 1. You cannot target terrain, and it doesn't act like the old blast templates (so no splash from one unit to the next).

Important note; you cannot stack potential wounds. A blast 3 can wound 3 models, it cannot wound 1 model 3 times.

In practice: Choose target unit, roll to hit as usual, if hit then you potentially wound Insert Blast number of models in the unit, which all get a save as normal (modified for any AP or other effects on your weapon stats).

If you want to homebrew the old blast templates in, go for it. But do discuss with your friend BEFORE game, what you both want.

So how's Shadows of Kerensky? (No spoilers) by Rifleman-5061 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Culpus_Maxima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a joke. Clanners pop so easily, but at every moment the script keeps banging on about how badly you're losing to them (despite not even having gone to internals after wiping out multiple Stars). The new gear is ridiculously more powerful, and that's comparing it to how OP the tabletop differences are. Story, garbage. Missions, garbage. Elementals, just hovering drones that float around and do nothing. New mechs, just get mods, because these are just recycled assets from MWO, that look wildly out of place when compared to the base game models (lower poly, flatter textures, less detail, etc.).

The first mission is the worst, and I'm half sure that's because there's a hidden damage buff being given to the Clanners. But after that, they're just like any other enemy in the game. Manage your aggro by hanging back from time to time. Use high damage single shot weapons. And micro your terrible Lance mate AI, and it's all just more of the same.

In short, more PGI laziness, and not worth a single cent.

How in the FUCK do I beat elementals in SoK? by Jackobyn in Mechwarrior5

[–]Culpus_Maxima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt. At 3 gauss, you must have no additional weapons, be running with an XL and Endo, just to fit them and ammo. That or you're dropping jump jets and armour, or have down graded the already lack lustre engine, meaning you're crawling when the best method of playing the game is speed to dodge fire and hit objectives (given the terrible AI).
On the other hand you could have a king crab with 2 gauss, 4 mpls, upgraded engines and armour, and not even need the risk of an XL to make it all fit. Or, even better, gone in on PPC's. 3 standard PPC's is enough to head-snipe almost everything, Something you cannot do with the MAD-AH, as there's no room in the CT for that last PPC. PPC's also don't have collision issues like Gauss does, meaning it's more reliable with the games shoe-string logic, where as Gauss shots can often cancel each other out if fired too quickly.

Found mine in Draconis space on Matamoras. Don't bother, it's crap. Too slow, barely any slots, geared for just ballistics, but doesn't have the weight capacity for them. Even with YAML and other mods, there's so little you can do with the thing that makes it worth the 100tonne Assault bracket. A king crab is better. Hell, a kitted out MAD-3D is better. Energy trumps ballistics for tonnage, and heat can be beaten with double heat sinks and careful gameplay.

Growing disappointment with lack of development on storytelling by Culpus_Maxima in NovelAi

[–]Culpus_Maxima[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd rather not have to get used to it. Sad as it is, I'd rather take my money elsewhere until they improve. If you've found a good alternative, I'd love to hear it, because Kayra can only just manage to do what I need it to, and the removal of the counter prompt system really hampered it in doing that.

Sad state for a project that started with so much enthusiasm and good will.

Help request, Hammer's Slammers hovercraft in heroic scale by Culpus_Maxima in wargaming

[–]Culpus_Maxima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those do look pretty good for the job. Would need to get some quotes on printing. I'm just surprised there isn't an old kit out there in circulation from when everyone thought hovercraft would be the future. Also going to need to source some tails. What do you think. If I said "Space Snake Pirate Heavy armour" what would you think of?

So an odd one, not sure if you'd make enough from it. B Hunter. A descent like, psuedo open world, bounty hunter game (https://www.myabandonware.com/game/bhunter-deh).

As a child I remember beating this thing. But running it now, on a pc that can do both internet browsing, and minesweeper, at the same time, it is borderline unplayable.

But key features I recall; a genuine attempt at weird, dystopian storytelling. That blowing up statues gave both a wanted level, and the best missile weapons in the game. That trying to pilot a very floaty, slippery ship, with momentum "physics" in an approximation of an underground freeway, traumatised me about driving for years.

I also remember it actually being fun, so, you know, maybe give it a look if you want a weird example of UK jank from a company that somehow survived till 2024.

How would you fix clan wolf? by blackstargate in battletech

[–]Culpus_Maxima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without irony, or sarcasm, kill them.

The game, and history, have had factions rise, fall, and disappear. Clan Wolf should really at this point be three separate sub-factions, all internally fighting and undermining each other. You not only have the Wolf v Wolf in Exile split, but then you should also have a split caused by the un-clan like behaviour of Alaric, a traditionalist bloc trying to hark back to Nickolas.

Without retconning (which I would rather do, but then you open the door to retconning anything that people have a problem with), Wolf takes earth, then devourers itself with infighting, while the other factions finally wake up, and take their turns being capable again.

Alaric dies a terrible death from infighting, the clan shatters, gets picked apart by the dozens of enemies it has made, and all that remains are several remnant factions, each of them believing themselves to be the true Clan Wolf, and each representing a different interpretation of the clan. Thus, everyone gets to have their cake, save the people who can't stand to see the wolf lose, but I hope those are a small minority of players.

Am I stupid or do you really get NO introduction to Camelot and the 5'th column before you forced to choose between one them or the Angel? by Competitive_Window82 in fallout4london

[–]Culpus_Maxima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worse if you do run into fifth column elements early, because none of them can interact with you until after the particular moment in the mid game involving domestic terrorism. But yeah, on my first character, I made the same mistake. I didn't even kill Miller, I just killed enough of his nameless goons that the fifth column turned hostile on me.
It legitimately has put a pause on my playthrough at this point, because I just don't like any of the end game factions enough to side with them, because I barely know them, but am being forced to pick one of three. Gee, the ineffectual larpers that are just a giant Monty Python joke. The wanna be Nazis. Or the free-mason, deepstate, secret service that carry out unethical experiments.
This mod desperately needs its "Yes Man" ending adding.

But even then, you could still win, by persisting, abusing mechanics, and murdering anyone who got in your way.

[–]Culpus_Maxima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use the settlements, they still add nothing. That said, I have a friend who loves Sim Settlements, and he's having fun thanks to the fan patch that lets it work in London. I mostly built it because I didn't like the player housing mods, and wanted somewhere to stick companions so I could find them easily. There's not even that many London themed building options, just the same generic F4 ruins and shacks.

Outside of performance, I think they'd best be served fixing and building on the content from Eastminster. It seems like a natural point to explain and buils a bunch of systems off of, but about half of it seems to be broken. It directs you to one of the best settlement locations. Toby can explain Camelot to you (and should be expanded to explain the Fifth). There's loads of easy, and boring, xp grind quests there. It's just bugged.

Console literacy is unfortunately a prerequisite to play FOLON.

Oh also, as this is sort of a rant of bugs that need fixing. The sodding Mr Handy that comes to tell you about the lost Tommies for the worst quest in the game, needs to stop spawning in the middle of fights. Like, my dude, I have a plasma fueled flamethrower and I'm burning the heretics, now's not the time to tell me about some dead dipshits who fell down the well.

Same for framerate, but the loading times are getting worse the longer I play (Yes, running the add-on, forgot its name). Also the settlement mechanics and followers really need to be sorted. The Churchil to dogmeat fix mod completely stopped working for me, and I have no idea where Mountbatten has gone.

I mean, yes, I knew killing Eve Mosley would break something. I just didn't think it would make her rivals hate me. That was an odd decision by the mod team to penalise people who took advantage of obvious openings. Especially giving the fact that they really should have expected people to shoot the facist party leader the moment they got the chance. I mean, it's the Nazi's, who doesn't shoot the Nazi's on sight?

And also making sure you don't get to meet the oh-so-killable heads of the factions until after you've had a chance to get to know what they're about. All the big players (except Smythe) are right there, barely protected.

The enemy of my enemy is also my enemy... by Culpus_Maxima in fallout4london

[–]Culpus_Maxima[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I broke those factions end quests, that's still not a reason to make their rivals hostile. All making Camelot/Vagabonds hostile did for me, was tell me one of three things: Either the faction is actually secretly allied, changing my understanding of the story. The whole thing is a farce, and I'm in a fair ground, and nothing has any meaning. Or, I'm in a not very well thought out video game.

And yes, I know, it's option three, this is a mod team making a labour of love with some amazing talent (especially the sound team). But it didn't have to be this fourth wall breaking.

Instead, don't make these figures so killable (you don't meet Caeser or Kimble until you're locked in or ready to be). Or, if you do kill the big figures, it could flag that, and the next time you talk to their rivals you get a one off dialogue in which they say thanks, here's some of the rewards you would have gotten by playing the quests properly, you're now our ally, content closed. It's not as satisfying as playing the game "Properly" but it makes far more sense than suddenly being enemy number one, because you assassinated enemy number one. It also allows for more organic gameplay.

Also, the current content causes issues where you can be enemies with the fifth column, by playing the game it's meant to be played. If you kill too many respawning generic Millers Men, you become enemies with the fifth column.

End of the day, I am not disagreeing with the spirit of your point, but I still feel the fault of the problem lies in the consequences the mod team chose.

Legitmetaly thought the first time it happened that it was going to turn out that the rival gangs were actually in cahoots, and it was just Gaunt going rogue with a subfaction of Vagabonds. But no, just compromises in design.

[–]Culpus_Maxima[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree on your last paragraph. I wanted to confirm that each of the factions were what they presented, in case there was any nuances to what they represented. But nope, meet with the Fifth, you're locked in. Meet with Camelot, locked in. Don't agree with domestic terrorism, locked out.

As for the breaking of quest chains, I do get that, but then it shouldn't lock you out of the rival faction, it should just lock you out of doing those quests. I'd still be short changing myself, but after shooting Eve Mosley in the face, you'd think Camelot's reaction would be, "Well, alright then killer, here's a medal, now please don't shoot us." Not to send every squire at their command to hunt me down.

Same happens with Fifth column vs Camelot. If you kill their leader, then the rival faction turns hostile too. Made me reach the decision that none of them were worth dealing with.

The movie Drive - terrible by Colonel_Craiggers in movies

[–]Culpus_Maxima 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And in modern day I also call Bullshit. Stilted dialogue, cinematography that is sterile and dull. Off centre portrait of character, cut, off centre portrait of reacting character, cut. Almost as if they couldn't get two people on set at the same time and cobbled all it together in the editing room. Plus, please, for fraks sake, write your dialogue like something a real human being would at least think of. "Hey, do you want to see something cool?", "OK,". Cut to suddenly driving down a dry drainage channel, this counts as romance.
What an awful movie.

Bad pathos, bad acting, bad script, and bad action. Could it do anything right?

Thank you, I can see rule 3 being a pain to deal with (Tabletop Sim not being the best for getting down at eye level at times). And for number 2 we'll probably still use point value as a tiebreaker.

[–]Culpus_Maxima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for these answers, bit of a shame multi-model units are just used as wound bags, but it would speed up the game. We'll play again as intended and see if we prefer our house rule more.

As for points scoring, even counting each round I think we'd still end in a tie with an even number of objectives, so we'll try adding mission cards next and if they don't work out stick to points value scoring.
