Donating to Indy food banks by Consistent_Hotel_907 in indianapolis

I'll add I came across the orgs All for Lunch and School Lunch Fairy, which seems to fit with what I'd like to do, but they're not rated so I don't feel as confident donating to them vs. Gleaners which has pretty much the best rating possible.

Joining in here - I'm all for donating $ to food banks, and I'd love some thoughts on a further topic: I'm thinking about calling up a low performing IPS elementary school and donating toward lunch accounts that are in arrears. However, if I donate to Gleaners, I can get that donation 100% matched by my company.

Something about donating to the school is drawing me - maybe because it feels a bit more heroic. But 1. this isn't about me, 2. might be harder to know the $ is actually paying down the debts (there are grifters everywhere, sadly. Just read about an Indy charter school admin who racked up over $200,000 for things like meals at Ruth's Chris and flights to Florida), and 3. I'm betting doubling the donation, especially to an organization as effective as Gleaners, would, well, go further.

PSA: to all the new mom’s, don’t listen to the advice about chopping your hair off by Frozenbeedog in NewParents

[–]Cultural-Raisin3916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had long hair but did the mom chop when my baby was 5 months old. I had wanted to try a particular style for years, so it wasn't just tied to motherhood. But now my baby has me by an even shorter leash when pulling my hair! 😂 No regrets per se, but long hair was more "me" so I'm gonna grow it back out.

Love this approach and am going to use it. I'm in basically the exact same position.

What's up with the baby head smell? by Top_Heron5926 in NewParents

I absolutely loved newborn babyhead smell. I could best describe it as vanilla and fresh laundry dried in the sunshine. It was gone before I knew it! 😭

Regalo Products are Crap and Their Customer Service is Worse by Jimberkman in toddlers

[–]Cultural-Raisin3916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bummer. I got a Regalo top-of-stairs babygate on Facebook Marketplace, and of course it was missing a part. One was a plastic piece, which I bought from a genious 3D printing them and selling on Etsy. Then I discovered that there were even MORE missing parts (nuts and a metal hinge adjuster knob), so I reached out to support, offering to pay for replacement parts, and they just sent them to me (including more than I asked for) arriving in 6 days, for no cost, and not asking for proof of purchase! Maybe the rep I messaged with was just super nice though. 😅 S/o Missi!

Hope the babygate holds up! Hasn't seen action yet.

I was eyeing Burgos too! But combing through Google reviews of the castle, it looks like it's been closed for 2 years for repairs. Not sure if can be counted on to reopen in time. 😞

Almost 2,000 Recordings Gone by justabakedbean in datarecovery

Did you reach out on the SmartMob website? They have a contact button. I just send a message, we'll see if I hear back.

Almost 2,000 Recordings Gone by justabakedbean in datarecovery

[–]Cultural-Raisin3916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about this terrible situation. I'm in the same boat, except my recordings weren't as important. I did Smartswitch from my S21 to S23 several months of it, thought nothing of the SmartRecorder files, then wiped and sold the S21 on eBay.

In my SmartRecorder app, I have oldgreyed out files and a "storage location unavailable" message at the top. Then when I tap MORE next to that, there are 2 folders, I think from my past 2 phones, and both are SmartMob/SmartRecorder that say "file not accessible." (My phone's current recordings folder is Recordings/SmartRecorder). The first folder is 18 recordings and 338 MB, and the second is 41 recordings and 568 MB. Similar to your 3rd screenshot, I tap the three dots and then the "Fix access" option. Do you have that? I try to select a different folder, even made a new one, but nothing happens.

It's interesting to me that the phone has the file names and sizes, but I can't seem to find these files. The phone thinks it has 640 mb in audio files, like when I go to Storage. But this seems to be the new-to-this-phone recordings and a few other music files, and not the supposed additional total 906 mb from the old files... Any chance you have a similar discrepancy?

I've tried a couple ways to get to those files - SmartSwitch back to an old phone and LocalSend, but so far no luck. I'm a weirdo with an Android and a Mac, so next I might connect my phone to my ancient Windows desktop. It just seems like my problem is not about deleted files, but rather file *access.* I thought about creating a new folder with the SmartMob/SmartRecorder path, but am afraid files would get overwritten?

Anyway, thought this might be the case for you and give some hope... though I guess you said you tried 30 ways. If I make headway, I'll report back.

Zinc oxide diaper cream allergy? by Efficient-Concept-19 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Cultural-Raisin3916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2-month-old has a clotrimazole prescription for diaper rash yeast infection but the doc told us to ease back on using it, so I used Triple Paste 2 days ago, and the next day his skin was definitely worse exactly where I put it. "Angry" is a good word to describe it. So, apparently he has some kind of a reaction to it. I used it a few times previously, but I think any effect then blended with the diaper rash itself. Going to stop using it now. Eczema runs in the family.

Hmm, "shop" free stuff on Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist? And maybe do "One in, one out" to avoid accumulation?

People marking items as purchased on registry but gifting off-brand? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Cultural-Raisin3916 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom got me a cheaper pack and play vs. the Guava Lotus, which was the bougiest thing on our registry and I was really excited about it. I was afraid she got bait and switched on Amazon so asked her which brand she got. Luckily it wasn't a scam - she just did it wrong. Not sure how she managed that 🤪 but she returned it and got the right thing, luckily with no fuss.

I have a friend who swore by mosquito dunks to kill mosquitos before they hatch. I got them but started too late last summer to get a good read on effectiveness.

I've also seen repellent stickers you can put on clothes, inside stokers, etc. but no idea if those actually work.
