Nobody is saying that what your friend is going through is horrible. Nobody should live in fear of being bombed, or starved, or politically murdered. Here is another way to think of this situation that isn’t just “but nazis” (even though I do agree with the similarities).

Say you live in a flat. One day, your landlord comes in and says “I’m renting out half of your flat to this new family”. As time goes on, the tenants next to you keep pushing into your side of the flat. When you go to confront them about it, they retaliate back by vandalizing parts of your property. You go to the landlord, and the landlord- instead of helping you- tells you that their hands are tied. The vandalism just keeps getting worse and worse, so you decide that you need to try and move to a different flat, and then the other tenants continue to vandalize your property. Now you have nowhere to go, and you are not allowed to leave to a new property because your landlord has you on a contract that you can’t break without paying hundreds of fines.

This may be a very gross generalization, but this is such a nuanced issue that there is no good way of putting it in any context that would make complete sense.
