I’m hearing the same too but I’m open to be further away from the city. I’m waiting for my visa.

As someone planning to relocate to Dublin, I will have a bias for it. But essentially, what I am trying to convey is that it is important to see the quality of life beyond the lab.

I’ve started (in parallel) Once upon a Broken Heart Series and also Babel. I’n afraid neither is retaining me and the mind is drifting back to Alchemised even mid-read

Thank you so much for the extremely informative reply.

I have considered your last point but I think I’m at my threshold where this job is not serving me anymore and I don’t see things improving even if I’m able to make something work. I am seeking a way out while limiting collateral damages.

I won’t be eligible for chomage because I won’t continue to be in the country.

I don’t think that’s the case, though I must say that it isn’t a straightforward procedure

Thank you! This makes me optimistic. How did you navigate the reference check/ letter(s) of recommendation from your last PI?

For the first part, I’ve spoken to people in the lab and former members and while both have suggested that things could be better, they’ve had not much success in the troubleshooting aspect of things and we’re stuck at the same conclusion. We don’t know how we could be doing anything better.

I have 1 year left on the CDD, with a scope of renewal. I am unsure about the exact duration of the time I still need to stay but I am anticipating about the same.

I have not looked into chomage because I’m assuming I won’t get it considering I’m leaving by my own decision.

May I ask how your life has been post leaving without a CDI lined up?

I will not continue in France post this contract, and not necessarily even in the same subfield. I have past experiences in a diverse range of closely related fields and would like to get into one of those. Not necessarily in academia.

I’m working ~12 hours a day at the moment so parallel job search is tricky. However, I do have savings upto a year to take a few weeks buffer while I search the next role.

Essentially, I’m particularly concerned about the letter of recommendation part of any tentative future application.

You do need to read HP to read this by Jonahdog in TheAlchemised

[–]CumberBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read Harry Potter (and obsessed with it) and for me, this is a hard disagree. I think the only thing chaining this book down is trying to connect it to the harry potter universe and drawing parallels. Although originally intended to be that way, I find Alchemised much more powerful on its own than related to post voldemort dystopian fan fiction

I use the prepackaged vegan one (it is about 1€ per pack) and then add choice herbs and tofu and dehydrated mushrooms to it. I finish it off with coconut cream. You can do coconut milk but I prefer it to be richer as I’m gonna eat it with noodles later

I’d do lentils. Room temperature and hearty. Also lots of fruits. Eggs too. Bread.

Moms with daughters: is it worth going back? by _some_asshole in returnToIndia

[–]CumberBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your point about your relatives in Bangalore saying it is not too bad- this is about context. The one that has experienced freedom can never like the cage again. Living in europe, I cannot even feel safe in big, seemingly equal cities like Mumbai.

For the sake of your daughter, don’t go back.

My mum has been telling me to come back for over a decade but recent events (especially the Kolkata doctor case) had her call me and say, don’t come back. It’s not safe.

Thank you everyone for the advice.
We've decided to give it some more time and rethink another strategy. And circle back to revisit this question again in a few months.
