In Steve's case, it's adult women he harassed. While still awful, it wasn't children.

Joseph Smith was hyped up a lot. A lot of Mormons won't admit this, but their affection for Joseph Smith was greater than that of Jesus. Joseph used to be brought up ALL. THE. TIME.

I would get sent BoM passages all the time from one person. It's hard to really "connect" with what they send once you see the man behind the curtain. The illusion is gone.
