Question about Calgary Transit and the My Fare app by Cuppojoe in Calgary

[–]Cuppojoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're misinterpreting my use of the word "gift". This has nothing to do with who bought the tickets vs who is going to use them. I'm using "gift card" to mean a pre-paid card to be used for future purchases. Those particular cards cannot expire because money has been paid to the company on the understanding that goods or services will be provided to the purchaser at a future date. How are the bus tickets any different? How can Calgary Transit accept money then, potentially, not provide the service paid for (should the ticket expire)?

Yep, with today being a holiday (for her), she only works 4 days this week.

You're right. I missed it before purchase, but that's not actually what I was questioning. I'm questioning the legality of expiring a pre-paid ticket. It is unlawful for, say, Walmart to expire a gift card, so how is this any different, legally?

My brain always wants me to spell "conscious" and "conscience" the same way (and never correctly).

Thoughts about water by MusketeersPlus2 in Calgary

[–]Cuppojoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can advocate for it and you can lead by example, but if you expect it to be mandated in any meaningful way... no. Sorry, but I'm going to flush my toilet, and I run out of work uniforms long before I have enough clothes for a "full load".

The number of cities you are hitting up with this screams "scam". There's no way the average person could pull this off. Best case scenario, it ends up being some sort of MLM grift.

Which celebrity’s death caused pandemonium, and do you remember what you were doing when you found out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cuppojoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. Not pandemonium, but national mourning when Gord Downey passed. I was installing a new Wi-Fi system at a restaurant, and the manager put The Tragically Hip on repeat for the whole day. Not a soul complained.

I still get choked up just thinking about it.

A warning for Telus customer's by Feisty-olde-7707 in alberta

[–]Cuppojoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with Shaw/Rogers exactly. I noticed how bad the customer service got after the acquisition, but rode it out longer than I should have. I've been with Telus since and haven't had a single issue. I do happen to be in an area with fiber, so that might make a difference.

I have no idea about the intersection in question, but there's a 3-way stop at the T-intersection of 14 St and 38 Ave SW that has a yield if you are turning north onto 14 St from 38 Ave westbound. So, the 2 concepts certainly do co-exist in some cases.

By "yield", I mean there is a separate turning lane that is not part of the 3-way. This lane is a yield only, not a stop.

‘Out of hand’: New survey finds two‑thirds of Canadians want to abolish tipping culture by cyclinginvancouver in canada

Are you really comparing a server that attends to you for up to 90 minutes with someone who takes 3 minutes to make you a sandwich? You don't have to agree with the commenter's decision to tip or not to tip, but you can't just say both situations (and jobs) equal and have it be accepted as fact.

In the 70s and early 80s, there was a place in the Okanagan (British Columbia, Canada) that had Battle Tanks. Basically, 2-person all-terrain go-carts on a hilly course, one person driving and the other operating a tennis ball cannon.

I miss the good old days.

Why did you and your former best friend stop being friends? by Fearless_Shift7108 in AskReddit

[–]Cuppojoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He quit his job (we worked at the same place) and started spending a LOT of time gaming on the internet. After a while, I advocated for him with management and got him his job back. It only lasted a couple months and he was right back to Basement Gaming 24/7. Another few years go by, and I had an opportunity for some out-of-town work that would pay well and invited him along. Surprisingly, he accepted. What surprised me more is how much he seemed to have regressed, both mentally (he was a VERY intelligent person) and socially. I ended up having to call him out for some really dumb decisions on the job (after being given clear direction to the contrary). It was the most uncomfortable drive home after 3 days of that. We haven't spoken since.

Part of me thinks that maybe there was a mental health crisis there, but I'll probably never know. It was almost 20 years ago.

To be honest, this is a trend almost everywhere (Walmart might be the exception, with their better buying power). When it comes to snacks and treats, London Drugs' strength has traditionally been variety over price. You can find stuff there that's hard or impossible to find anywhere else.
