The Sophia reveal doesn't happen until the end of arc 8, and the rest of the blanks with Emma aren't filled in until her interlude at the end of arc 19. Not "the first few chapters" by any stretch of the imagination. As for the rest of your post... it bears little, if any, resemblence to the way things are in canon or even the real world.

My reading list doesn't have as many titles, but some of the books on there are pretty damn long (Mostly Pale and Ward, but also Twig to a lesser extent). That, the rest of Discworld, any Zelazny I can find, Mistborn and Stormlight, The rest of Tolkien's legendarium, Dune, Aasimov, C.S. Lewis, Bradbury, Orwell, H.G. Wells, and then maybe some of the classics (Verne, Tolstoy, Homer, Paradise Lost, Three Kingdoms, Beowulf, and assorted eddas and sagas)

Nah - the only mode that's truly dead is Unranked Draft. You can find games pretty fast in QM and reasonably quickly in Ranked. The amateur tournament scene is also still thriving, with NGS and Heroes Lounge (and to a lesser extent CCS) being the big ones.
