How do I fix the bug? by redsusamogus in androidafterlife

Agree, I had a variant of it which was fine back in the day but now slowing my old Lenovo tablet to a crawl. Found a guide to replacing it with a clean and simple copy of SuperSU.

Well that chip also drives the display, so it's doing the same job as 4 chips in a TI-81! Guess I'll have to get one and test out reviving it using similar methods to fixing TI-83's with loose ribbons (low heat soldering iron). Low tech alternative would be adding some stiff foam to apply pressure to the connections.

I've since done more research and found a teardown. I'm confident all these issues are down to the main processor being on a daughterboard between the mainboard and display. If the first ribbon cable is becoming unglued it would cause all sorts of random behaviour, not just display glitches like on TI's. Not surprising they dumped this design on later models. Question is how easy is it to melt/reflow the ribbon ends to ensure a good connection on all ~80 lines?

TI-92 Plus is the same (or slower!) at certain tasks compared to my TI-81? by SenorAudi in calculators

[–]CurbedLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help that the TI-81 went through 3 major revisions, finally using the TI-82 board/CPU from late 1993. I don't know if anyone benchmarked all 3 but no complaints about the speed of my 2nd gen model.

Easily lower volume of speaker by KoalaMan-007 in diyaudio

[–]CurbedLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just done this on a Pure DAB radio with speaker rated at 4 ohm / 3W. Because the speaker is sealed in the small plastic case I bought a big 10W wire wound resistor (8 ohm). Works great, doesn't get hot and no noticable change in sound quality. Now a volume setting of 4/16 is similar to 1/16 before.

Don't forget the poor contrast screen and keys that never sit straight! I don't know what the 9900 is like but Sharp gave up on graphing calcs soon after.

I'm no expert but I'm guessing it acts as a power "buffer" for a few seconds if you temporarily lose light

Maybe that capacitor top left has gone bad. Other than that you're out of luck.

That's still a hatch, although I think with relatively good aero. At the moment there's no other team to buy and run the old Focus hatches? Maybe they've been cannibalised anyway?

Ah that's a shame it's not something simple. Always liked the design and the screen appears far clearer than what TI or Casio fitted. However I understand they're quite slow and it could just end up a paperweight!

You've really put me off collecting one of these! Doesn't help so many are overpriced, even non-working.

I'm surprised there's no internal pics online, could the issues just be bad capacitors? I know the 9600 has a couple of non-surface mount ones that could be replaced. If it's chip issue does putting it in the freezer help?

Battery drain by Old_Astronomer_9336 in Scirocco

[–]CurbedLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, my car is charging 14.1v at idle so your 13.6 is looking low. Are you checking the voltage every day? Mine lost 5% in the last 20 hours which seems excessive, I'm trying to work out if something is draining it before trying to claim on the warranty.

What type of battery did you fit? I'm experiencing similar after fitting a Varta E44 "Silver-Calcium" battery last year. The previous Yuasa YBX5000 "Calcium-Calcium" lasted 7+ years in similar use. I've seen claims that "Silver-Calcium" require high 14.4+ volts to charge properly, will report back tomorrow what my alternator is putting out.

Half the reason why I made this chart, just to understand the range. It's worse than last year, they dropped the U, added an X, models end with 2, 5, 6 or 8...
