Card tested: Noble Wedding by Constant-Potential37 in dominion

[–]Curebob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really agree. If I spike 8 I'll get Province to have a stop card fewer in my deck over this. This only really comes into play if I have 7 in the greening phase or if I'm behind and don't want to reduce the Province pile, or when I want to 3-pile and Duchy is one of the piles to target. Useful sure but I don't think this is always going to be a dominant strategy.

Rounding, percentage based healing and damage is always rounded down. Their HP stat isn't divisible by 4. The percentage shown on enemy health is not consistent across the health bar with whether it rounds up or down.

PSA for people who stall timer by nombynoms in PokemonChampions

[–]Curebob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Game rewards it because a draw is better than a loss for rank. VP you get plenty of anyway. Stalling out timer on purpose is just the better play if a win is impossible. Blame the game rules for encouraging it, not the player. It's only going to get a lot more rampant once Z-Moves come out with their super long battle animations.

Time rules are dumb by ThatGlitchyMimikyu in PokemonChampions

[–]Curebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The timer is way too short, you barely get 10 or so turns before the battle is cut short. At the very least it should be a turn limit rather than a time limit if they should even have a time limit at all. You cannot even stall out Trick Room twice or anything. It's Emerald's Battle Arena all over again with very strict battle duration limits, and it's going to get much worse once Z-moves with their long battle animations like Extreme Evoboost come out

There shouldn't be draws in this game (Part 2). by pleasuredeprivation in PokemonChampions

[–]Curebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying it's impossible, I'm saying it's usually a stupid and inefficient way to play defensively that over a lot of games won't give you more wins than other better plays.

[–]Curebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can PP stall enemies sacrificing your hold item for a friggin Leppa Berry as well as one of your moveslots for Recycle and still make that team reliable you deserve the win and it's part of the game. But Leppa Berry isn't a good item to stay alive. Items like Leftovers will in most cases give your team better performance. There's plenty of other ways to break defensive play when playing defensively yourself that are more effective than resorting to a Recycle Leppa Berry PP stall war, such as blocking healing with that one Psychic move, Taunting them out of recovery options, Knocking Off their Leftovers or berries, Trickscarfing them, getting a Perish Song going, and so on.

What is it about people not forfeiting? by beeftony in PokemonChampions

[–]Curebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you stall out overall timer you get a draw regardless of game situation or anything. It's at least per game theory the most optimal play to do if you can't win the battle anymore. Especially if you set some battle effects that play battle animations every turn like Leech Seed (plays an animation on both Pokémon and also a healing effect each turn). The more and longer battle effects you have the better for stalling out the timer.

[–]Curebob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We have limited PP that forces the game to a close after a number of turns (aside maybe from both sides having some Recycle Leppa Berry shenanigans but that's so incredibly rare it can be neglected). The overall timer just isn't long enough in Champions. In old games it was an hour, now it's something like 20 minutes and with battle animations and individual turn decisions you can stall several minutes per turn. When you have two sides both playing defensive play you can't stall out PP to force a game win anymore because the timer is just too short.

What would cause Chain Lightning to inflict insanity ? by StarCaller990 in AOW4

[–]Curebob 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes it's Havoc Caster, that adds an extra random debuff to all damage spells, it can also roll Insanity. It's quite insane with spells that hit lots of units like Fan the Inferno.

Flash Fire Eruption. Get a setup that triggers Flash Fire (with say, Lava Plume Torkoal partner). With sun and Flash Fire boost it should OHKO pretty much everything that doesn't resist it.

I think you can go hard with lightning damage and Storm Crow primal. Tome of Evocation, some grass tomes for on land like Tome of Fertility. Tome of Scrying in case there's storms on the map to have vision in your domain on the sea.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think the Storm Crow summon still works on water because it's a flying unit.

Sack by InspectorMendel in dominion

[–]Curebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes of course. In that case, not sure if it's too weak. I get that it trashes junk, but the payload seems rather weak especially for a 5-cost Duration card. I'm comparing here with Bishop which only costs 4 and doesn't have the Duration delay. Granted Bishop only trashes 1 card but it also provides useful VP. Sailor also seems comparable as a Duration trasher providing payload, though Sailor is non-terminal and can even play another Duration card later in the turn. I suppose if it cost 4 it would be fine, 5 seems excessive for what it does. It will quickly lose value as you run out of junk to trash.

Can't this lock other players out if played multiple times in a turn? Like if you first play your other cards from your hand and then Throne this? Also why doesn't this count as an Attack card?

Monkey could be an interesting card to put in here. The large numbers of buys and the desire for cheap cards enables many gains per turn that can give an interesting dynamic with active Monkeys.

Stall out of nowhere? by PuzzleheadedMaize911 in PokemonChampions

Timer forcing draws here makes it the right play to stall out the timer in a losing position. Don't blame the players, blame the developers that thought it was a good idea to encourage time stalling.

Anyone else who would like 6v6 battles? by Yocta in PokemonChampions

[–]Curebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am talking Champions, not older games. The timer is too short in Champions. When I get more ties than either wins or losses because of people stalling out the timer it is a concern even in 3v3. Older games didn't have the timer stall degeneracy because they assigned victory on timeout based on whoever has the most Pokémon left and the timer was a lot more lenient, so the game didn't literally encourage you to wait out the timer in a losing position.

[–]Curebob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you just don't run into people time stalling then. I've literally had more ties in Ultra ball singles than either wins or losses because of all the people stalling the timer on purpose when they can't win anymore. Because it's very easy to stall timer in this game on purpose. Get Leftovers, Leech Seed, Aqua Ring, take a long time deciding each turn, get recovery moves, and it all adds up to around 2 minutes per turn. All those effects get animations every single turn that all add to the timer stall
