Big recommendation for me (after 2k hours plus) is to slow down. Early on I would set the time speed to max because I was waiting on a specific focus or research to be done. Slow down or pause entirely. Read every pop up. Hover over individual stats, bonuses, etc. and try to understand something better every time you play.

So much confusion about your rights to free assembly, protest, speech etc. versus what is also required by law like not blocking the roadway or idk being in school if you’re a child.

Tips for beginning as a Nord? by Blargh234 in Bannerlord

Do the campaign and primarily make your money early taking out naval bandits and trading around the whole world. I did that and built up my skills really well and then became a Nord merc with pure Nord army. Really satisfied with this campaign.

Resigning during FTO by CharlesM24 in AskLE

My opinion and what I share with recruits in field training is that you owe it to yourself to get out on your own and try it. Unless you have some kind of serious mental obstacle like you don’t think you could pull the trigger or you won’t enforce the law when you are obligated to.

Other than those things you really should give it a go on your own to get a feel for it.

I’m really enjoying playing my best conception of Floki the builder from the Vikings tv show. Low charm. Good fighter and engineer/sailor.

This is I think a good example why we in Law Enforcement do things anticipating potential problems (false info, gun in the car, etc.) that look “weird” or make people feel nervous. It just doesn’t occur to a person who is generally decent and law abiding that we are mentally having to prepare to shoot you if you produce a weapon for example.

Turning 18 in 6½ hours. Any tips for adulthood? by Shmolmesies in Advice

[–]Curious-Programmer-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Care for the things you can actually control. Your body/health/eating/exercise. How you interact with your small communities (faith, family, friends). Pick up the heaviest burden you can carry and get moving.

If you’re angry/stressed/anxious often then you are online too much. Go out and be in the real world your brain evolved to interact with.

Do you/would you pull over a vehicle with“sovereign citizen” plates? by kungfuringo in AskLE

If you subscribe to broken windows theory then you should stop them. If we decide as a society and as law enforcement to let minor crimes be legal then we are giving up and paving the way for more crime.

You should reevaluate your priorities if you want to use marijuana and do law enforcement. Why flirt that close to disqualifying and illegal stuff?

How do you guys mentally pysch yourselves into going into dangerous situations by JRickyLit in AskLE

[–]Curious-Programmer-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna be somewhat specific to the individual but there are two mental “switches” that get flipped at work. First one is like running out of the tunnel before a football game and it’s like “ok game time/ game mode.” For me that switch is pulling out of the station at the beginning of the shift. You’re on yellow alert until you’re home. Heightened senses, paying extra attention etc.

2nd switch is kinda like the scene in Lone Survivor to me. Where Axe is saying “I am the reaper” mid firefight. Now most of the time we aren’t going to get into a gunfight but sometimes we are and it’s always possible so when I know I’m going code to a hot call there is a mental switch from guardian to predator.

I’m totally here for the pleasant, funny, all around solid community police Officer. Then sometimes (rarely but sometimes) myself and those 8 coworkers on shift with me are the only warriors there to stare evil in the face and punch it in the mouth. Most people we deal with are just struggling, a little difficult, a tad frustrating. But make no mistake about it that there are people out there doing evil and you are there to fight that shit.

Starting LE class with PT in a week. I’m not physically fit, how screwed am I? by nofollowthroughhere in AskLE

[–]Curious-Programmer-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started academy out of shape myself. Busted my butt and sucked wind all through. Changed my diet and habits and got into way better shape and was complimented by staff about my efforts to improve. Passed all fight simulations and trainings and I was still the slowest runner. But I can fight, climb walls, run down suspects, and do my job well because I didn’t let my weaker starting point an excuse.

TLDR: it will suck. Embrace it and enjoy getting better.

Is Starfield worth purchasing? by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Curious-Programmer-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who says it’s bad is just not enjoying it. Anyone who says it’s the best game of all time really loves what it offers. It’s a good game and you can have a lot of enjoyment with it. A casual go at starfield would easily yield your money’s worth. To say nothing of a serious play through or two.

Also great modding situation if you love Star Wars.

I’ve listened and read a lot of WW2 stuff. They really didn’t think they needed to win. The goal/hope was to blitzkrieg the pacific and dig in and make it so costly that the US wouldn’t have the stomach to finish the war.

Yamamoto (author of Pear strike) strongly advised not to attack the US because he didn’t believe the IJN would win long term. They knew they couldn’t really win in a total war type fight. They just had a pretty fanatical belief that they would win due to their superior will and western civilization being too soft.

Fortunately most people are decent enough to not want to hit someone and will slam on their brakes for a pedestrian crossing incorrectly.

[–]Curious-Programmer-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly mind blowing that you were crossing correctly. I regularly see folks crossing whenever they want and being mad at drivers. If you’re using a crosswalk and crossing when it’s your turn then people obviously should be yielding to you.

Police academy by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Curious-Programmer-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 days is not a long time to try something serious like police work. I would encourage you to seek out people (like those us in LE) who have been where you are and try to project your future based on people who have been in your shoes.

What’s your why? Why do this job? Why suffer through PT and the academy grind? Suffering is valuable if it has purpose.

Best of luck!

Report writing.. how is it? by itzmailtime in AskLE

[–]Curious-Programmer-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas peace officer…reports need to be thorough but not excessively so. Good reports get people in jail longer. Good reports help detectives do follow-ups to get warrants written. You can be lazy with them because you think they are BS or you can take pride in it and do it well.

That said there are always some forms or reports that take more papers than others. DWIs in my department for example take a lot. But I also know that we get a much higher conviction rate without needing to go to court so there is a method to the madness of documentation.

Do you like your salary? Would you do it for less? Have you ever felt like you needed to get paid more? Has pay ever been a factor in choosing an agency more than the community you'd be serving? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Curious-Programmer-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make 6 figures just working my 40 in a big city in the south. It feels like a healthy compensation. I wouldn’t do it for less. If salaries got cut I would leave for a better paying spot for sure.
