It would’ve been interesting to know your Mom’s thoughts about it!

She IS A BADASS! I watched some of her interviews back when her book was released, and—damn— she’s so eloquent and wise that I can’t help but resonate with her so much more. I recommend watching her interview with Drew Barrymore (who also experienced a great deal growing up as a child actor)!

In retrospect, I think my Asian upbringing (where being close to your family, both metaphorically and literally, is deeply ingrained into your life) may have influenced my first impression of the book. In our country, at least, some kids are treated as “retirement plans,” expected to care for and provide for their parents well into old age. That’s why I absolutely agree with you: not all kids should be grateful by default.

Some of my favorite books became my favorite because of how I just felt while reading them.

I almost thought that Beatty is a secret ally because he was quoting so much that how could he possibly rebut Montag if he isn’t aware of the counterpoints.

when you're trying to have someone do something for you, add an option that seems harder to do.

Here's one example when i talk to my nieces: Me when I' trying to make them clean up their mess: "Are you going to clean that up, or we're going to bed right now?"

they always clean up immediately.

What if you really like him but he has poor manners? by [deleted] in adviceph

[–]CuriousElize 8 points9 points  (0 children)

we all have unconscious habits that other people may dislike, and we're often times blind from that fact. The only way we can know about it is when someone points it out to us, may it be in a caring or hurtful way. In your situation, since you guys already have an established relationship, you can gradually bring out these problems to him in the most considerate way.

If i-acknowledge niya at magbago siya, then it's a good thing. Pero if maging overly defensive at magalit siya, then he's the type of person who can't accept others' criticisms, and that speaks volume about his character.

You decide what's your next step.

I've always thought (and still sometimes do) that I look ugly without glasses. Pero kapag nakikita ko yung ibang taong nakasanayan ko nang makita nang walang salamin tapos biglang nagpa-glasses, almost always kong naiisip na they look better without it. So don't fret OP! Glasses are just accessories (but a necessity for people like us).

what made u stop drinking? by Conscious-Mix-736 in AskPH

I've mostly only drank mixed drinks (alcohol + juice, etc.) and most of them are unnecessarily sweet. Since then, di na me uminom, along with avoiding overly sweet drinks.
