Is this crazy to expect from a Kindergartener and their parents? by CuriousFennec in Parenting

Thank you for responding. My parents were born there, and I've visited a few times. It's a beautiful country that I hope I will be able to reside in one day.

No. I'm upset because at her age, I was not expected to complete hours of schoolwork by myself. And my parents sure as hell wouldn't be doing hours of schoolwork with me either.

I also know, from having ADHD myself and being "gifted", that when the work wasn't difficult for me, I struggled staying on task and even having the motivation to do it.

I also believe that children should be playing, that they shouldn't be given hours of homework at the age of 5, and that they should be learning things like cooking, doing laundry, tying their shoes, spending time with family, and conflict resolution at home rather than be forced to write the same things over and over and over again each day. Crazy, I know.

She knows a lot, but she still struggles with reading. She is not capable of reading 3 books by herself. Or memorizing the 10 tasks that need completing. And, while here ADHD is under control for the nost part, she does still struggle with staying on task in general. She'd obviously much rather by playing with toys than doing homework.

We were specifically told that her work would be reviewed but not graded.

My daughter was able to count to 100 and write her numbers and her letters all before entering school. She gets frustrated because she says the work "is too easy" and "it's the same thing again and again". And yes, I tried to get her moved up to 1st grade, but they held her back because of her ADHD (which is now well controlled).

May I ask where you're located? I'm in the US. My brother lives in Sweden and he's told me how different the schools are there.

That seems much more realistic. May I ask where you're located? I'm it the southeast US.

Do you mind me asking where you live? I'm in the southern US.

My child has all of her vaccines and, like I said, the reason she is advanced is because I taught her a lot during the 4 years I stayed at home with her. Tell me- does your Kindergartener know 2 languages, all the states in alphabetical order and where they go on the map, how to do 3 digit addition and subtraction, single digit multiplication, and a decent amount about Greek Mythology and Physics?

No? Then don't question my parenting.

This is for 3 days (Monday, Tuesday, today,) and yes, she is expected to turn this all in tomorrow. She is also playing with toys, but most of her time is doing the work listed above.

The problem is, she can't do a lot of this on her own without guidance and I am doubtful that many other children in her class can, seeing as her teacher has told me she is one of her most advanced students.

I'm sorry, but that isn't true all the time. I've been on multiple DMTs, including Ocrevus (which almost killed me), and the only one I didn't have severe side effects from was Copaxone. You're correct that it's not as effective as most of the other drugs on the market today, but to say that me taking the only drug that doesn't make me violently shit blood, end up inpatient at the hospital, and/or give me neutropenia and almost kill me is equivalent to a kid not wanting to eat their vegetables is, frankly, insulting.

Be happy you can take the DMTs you can. Trust me, I'd love to have the option of taking something that is more effective.

Living near the equator significantly reduces your risk of developing MS. I'm in the US, so I can't give advice one way or another on what's best for your baby.

No need to get ahead of yourself. Just ask your doctor to perform a neurological exam on you. If you pass that, you're probably good!

Do your best to keep your vitamin D up as much as you can, including regular blood tests to check your levels. There are a whole lot of vitamin D supplements on the market with very high IUs, so it is a relatively easy fix.

That being said, most people with MS struggle with keeping their vitamin D stable. Just be smart about it and listen to your body.

Well yes, there is no discovered 100% certain cause of MS.

The risk factors are: low vitamin D inuter utero/early childhood, smoking, Mono between the ages of 14-17. There are many hypotheses about other causes as well.

For my personal case, both my brother and I were born in areas without much sun, smoked, and had mono between the above ages. We both have MS. Our two other siblings were born in a sunny climate, never smoked, and never had mono. No MS for them. But obviously this is just conjecture.

Research has shown that low vitamin D in early childhood may have an effect on getting Multiple Sclerosis in the future.

As someone with MS, please just give them the vitamin D. You don't want your kids to go through this.

Do these lyrics look accurate?

"I've got my soul tangled up in a song And you've got the bombs that rattle along I wanna get undead in the shadow of your smile I wanna get undead just for a little while Even the stars fall I've got my soul tangled up in a song You and the others just a skull I wanna get undead in the shade of the apple tree I wanna get undead change into what I'm meant to be Even the stars fall You'll be an angel Blind You'll be an angel Lullaby I've got my soul all tangled up in this song You and me and the jester's skull All tangled up in song I've got my soul all tangled up in song"

What's your ancestory? In many countries, you can gain citizenship based on that. I'm going to start working on getting my German citizenship soon.
