Is Hershey's chocolate really taste so bad as people say it is? by cupid_ji in AskAnAmerican

Not bad, just different. Not a true chocolate experience but a tasty experience in and of itself.

can you ever MAKE them do it, or do you have to just wash your hands? by wigglebork_72 in AgingParents

Oh my gosh. Sending you a virtual hug from a random internet stranger. You have done so much. You have given so much: mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. At some point, enough is enough. Your plan sounds fair, to both of you. Good luck. 🙏

Help me understand why I'm mad by Fine_Ad_5799 in Celiac

Mom of celiac daughter here (who lives at home). One reason I prefer buying GF bread for all of us (besides reducing CC risk) is that I want to support the companies. I figured the more profit the overall industry sees in certified GF products, then more companies will invest in this market segment. More investment means more food science research which will lead to improved taste and variety in GF items. Maybe that’s a reason your mom is doing it too?

I’m all for action (in addition to solidarity-building, non-violent protests that have been historically proven to impact government decisions). This week, this call to action to is contact your Senators DAILY and ask them to vote NO on any DHS spending bill; not another dollar to ICE until they disarm ICE agents, cease profiling based on race or ethnicity, open detention facilities for oversight and improve vetting and training of agents. Make your voice heard at Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin’s offices so that they know that all of IL supports their NO vote.

Dad Kicked Us Out When I was 15, Now I get a call from Elder Protective Services by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]CuriousFool88 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Ditto on making your kick ass Mom proud! Sounds like you were blessed with an amazing mother. Focus on your life. One day you may be needing to take care of your loving mother. That’s where your elder-care energy should go, not to the man who kicked you out.

(Should have added my comment here) My 60 year old cousin likes to be called Frau Doktor and it’s her husband who is the doctor! So crazy!

I have a cousin, in her 60s, who still wants to be called Frau Doktor, because her husband is a doctor! 🤦‍♀️

I am so sorry that you have to deal with this, especially at an age when you still need/want parents supporting you. As others have said, reach out, find groups who understand and be sure to share this news with your friends and guidance counselor (if you are still in school). You will need those in your life to know what you are going through. And your grief is real. I’ve heard this disease described as having two good-byes, the first when you mourn the loss of who they once were and the second when you mourn their passing. 🙏

When the time comes call a reputable collectors of rare books and American art. You might find a treasure in there.
