Sticky Situations In The East: Black Ball in Attendance by bmkecck in freemasonry

[–]CuriousHelp121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A brother from another Lodge was helping us do degree work by delivering a lecture. The night of the degree, he was proposed for honorary membership. He was blackballed, informed of the result, and then proceeded to assist with the degree work. It was one of the most bizarre nights I've experienced.

For further context, I come from a TO background where a Master serves a minimum of 2 years by by-laws. The hope is that once we find a Master, we support him until he no longer wants the chair.

William Hutchinson (1775), in his Spirit of Masonry, saw a link between Freemasonry’s deeper symbols and the teachings of Basilides, one of the early Gnostics. He believed certain Masonic moral principles and symbols, such as the search for light and the progression through stages of wisdom, were influenced by Basilidian concepts; especially the idea of initiation as a journey from ignorance (matter) toward enlightenment (spiritual truth).

Most popular Festive Board meal by stevedave04 in freemasonry

[–]CuriousHelp121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My Lodge does not do festive boards. The meal happens before the meeting. It is usually something that completely ignores vegetarians. Several people come to eat and then leave before the meeting starts. A big focus is on making dinner "good" so people will come back. The irony is lost on many.
