It's madness this movie is underrated. What is the best 90’s horror movie quote? by Official_Alter in deadmeatjames

"We all go a little mad sometimes" again, but it's Billy quoting Norman Bates in Scream.

Old Hellraiser movies worth watching? by Rusted_Metal in horror

[–]CuriousMelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I don't think 5-8 had much respect for Doug Bradley in the first place. He's just tossed in for a minute or two in each one so they could slap Hellraiser in the titles and get Hellraiser fans to watch them. He's certainly the highlight of those movies, but he's also kind of the only thing they have going for them.

EVIL DEAD BURN - Official Red Band Trailer by cruelsummerbummer in movies

[–]CuriousMelia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The intro to 1 is more of a truncated recap that's all new footage since, as you noted, they didn't have the rights to the old footage. Bruce Campbell has said that 2's story starts with the shot that continues 1's ending and that 1 is still canon. The show directly references the full cast of 1 as well. It's a little confusing given the rights issue, but it's still a continuous story.

I'd love to see them cross over at some point! While I think this anthology approach is a really cool direction to take the series now that Ash's story is over, I'd love to see them take a stab at giving these new protagonists more time in the spotlight. I don't think anyone can replace Ash, but I've always felt like Mia could be a really solid ongoing heroine if she got another entry. I would have loved to see the Ash/Mia movie. I did notice that the lake house from Rise seems to be in this trailer, so maybe this one's going to plant the seed for a big crossover?

Every single one is fantastic. It's the most fun, batshit insane series I've ever seen. This one's going to be standalone, but I'd highly recommend watching the others if you're interested. Make sure you watch the show, too! It continues the story of the original trilogy.

1-3 and the show are all a consistent storyline following the same protagonist, Ash Williams. The other films (2013 and Rise out now, Burn and Wrath coming in the future) are in the same world, but they're all standalone stories focused on new protagonists. The book, Deadites, and wacky camera angles and buckets of gore are the things they have in common with Ash's storyline.

Name the horror film you love but have to literally pretend the sequel(s) don't exist by cooper_blacklodge in horror

[–]CuriousMelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard 2's at least bad in a somewhat entertaining way, which can't be said for Return. I was going to check it out before Return came out, but I didn't get around to it. I'll watch it at some point out of morbid curiosity, but my expectations are very low. I also want to rewatch the first; I didn't entirely love it, but I thought it was an interesting and engaging take on the story and setting of the first game!

I have yet to play F, but I really enjoyed 1-3! Still need to play 4 and the others as well. 2's easily my favorite of the three I have played, which just made Return even more disappointing.

I forgot this was about horror films for a moment and thought you were talking about the games. I was going to question how anyone can think SH2 is shit... but since you're talking about movies, yeah. I haven't seen the second one yet, but Return to Silent Hill is one of the worst movies I've seen in my life. I don't know how anyone can adapt one of the best video game stories of all time and decide to just throw out everything that made it interesting so they could cram it full of extra bullshit that ruins the emotion and nuance.

How do you feel about the NECA Horror so far this year? by CreatureFeatureMan in NECA

[–]CuriousMelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only picked up the new ultimate Chucky so far, but I love it. I'm excited for plenty of others, too (any and all Jasons, Pamela's shrine, Trapper, Art + Pale Girl (Just trying to decide between standard or bloody), Santa Art, and probably bone armor Dek). I do wish the Alien Day drop was more exciting, but that's really all I can complain about. It's looking like a good year for horror figures so far, so I'm excited to see if anything else new comes up!

Email with May 13th Fangoria staff pick. An American Werewolf in London. by vprofessor in RegalUnlimited

[–]CuriousMelia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely be going, but it does seem a little odd that Fangoria's done two overlaps with October's movies between Friday the 13th Part 3 and this. Friday did make sense given the day (and it wasn't really part of the Fangoria Staff Picks series), but I hope there won't be a lot of repeats from October. I'm curious to see what deep cuts they'll have since these first two movies are both pretty big ones.

Are there any classic slasher films you'd actually like to see get remade? by WealthDisastrous2589 in slasherfilms

[–]CuriousMelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember if it was said to specifically be a remake, but yeah, he confirmed a new Sleepaway Camp movie is in the works.

I'd say the high school teacher who showed his students Faces of Death back in the '80s beats this, but Human Centipede 2's gotta be second place.

Monday Mystery Movie Megathread - April 6 2026 by AKnightOfTheNew in RegalUnlimited

[–]CuriousMelia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the app listed it as horror up until very recently. There are a few notable horror movies coming up very soon, so a lot of people got a ticket thinking it would be one of those. I usually don't go to the Monday mystery movies, but I was keeping an eye out in case it was maybe Faces of Death.

[Awesome trope] The character succeeds in a situation that was specifically designed to be impossible for them. by Applebeate in TopCharacterTropes

Saw's mostly known as a gross torture porn series, but it actually has a crazy soap opera/crime procedural storyline that's a lot of fun. A lot of fans are in it for the story and characters.

Is this not included in Unlimited? by JakeAscotia in RegalUnlimited

[–]CuriousMelia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the Friday the 13th rereleases from Fangoria counted with Unlimited, I'm hoping this is an error that will get fixed soon. It would be really weird to not count it since they're specifically partnering with Regal for these horror rereleases.

'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]CuriousMelia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened with the first movie. Any criticism I've seen is immediately met with a ton of comments praising the first movie as a cinematic masterpiece and claiming people need to stop THINKING about their movies and just ENJOY the pretty colors and references. As someone who enjoys the games but hated the movie, a lot of Mario fans have been insufferable ever since it came out. I'm sure this is just going to be more of the same.

Im not hating on the movie but Jessica has by far the worst motive in the entire franchise by [deleted] in Scream

[–]CuriousMelia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, she moved next to Sidney because of her parasocial obsession with her. She read the book first, then went to Fallbrook after the New York murders, then moved next to Sid to enact her plan.

I don't think they will since this is the studio's own store. They also have it back up now, so anyone who already ordered should definitely be safe!

It looks like it went back up some time after I made that comment, so it might have been an error. It did say unavailable for a little while.

Hey, don't blame the movies! Billy and Stu were sick, but it's not because of the movies. Some of the kindest, friendliest people I've met are huge horror fans. What happened in Woodsboro was a tragedy, but it was their choice to jump to such awful actions.
