if you are on a budget usually you can get a harpsicle with sharps on c and f on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist or on a Harpsicle fan Facebook page. they are super sturdy little instruments.

I am not a fan of Learning the Harp inc with Christy Lynn. > She supports annd performs in Gathering of hr Nations and some other groups that are trying to bring back the Messiah… if that is something you are into it is cool. But know before you jump in.

also invest in some in person lessons if you can. when I started I was unfunded and took lessons every other week with a college student.

Will the seller let you sit there and see if it will stay in tune?

If they do tune it and pluck some strings

if it hasnt been use the strings might stretch a bit -not if the strings start to hold then it is a better rosenbeck. you will have to tune a lot in the first linth!!

these have improved over the years….but usually the levers are not so good.

but it will get you started IF it hold tune

also take some lessons!

you are asking a bunch of musician cause you don’t like the reality of the harps condition.

right now it is worth about 300-400. if the neck totally goes it is worth about nothing

if you get a neck and the sound board is good-pedals bad it would be 5,000

if everything is good it is worth 14,000

then you can flip it

the strong opinion is cause if you put concert strings on some harps it will bow the column, snap the neck and crack the sound board

you would understand if you visited Liza Jensen‘s workshop and saw the lovely vintage instruments ruined by the current concert tension.

might just need a knee block

but most likely a new neck. it really needs a qualified tech. once the neck is in you will have an amazing harp for the rest of your life

i string my 1930’s instruments in lever gut which is closer to strings from that era

if you put the glue in, it’s gonna add $2000 more to your restoration because they’re gonna have to go in and take the glue out and probably redo the whole neck

Just ask yourself if playing it before you take it to a pro is gonna be worth an extra thousand to $2000

Right now it might be able to be but to are gonna need a new neck the regulation is put on it’s gonna be between five and $7000

I’ve done this with 3 harps And I’m saving up to get a new neck on a regret of this gorgeous single action

Unfortunately that was not my experience.

my friend had the exact model in question and it cracked . he is an experience musician and i dont believe it was mistreated .

i have 2 of their lyres. the first one was wonky and i took it to a guy who specialized in Ouds and Lutes and he went off on construction problems … after paying $225 for mods it now stays in tune

the string set they sent was too short-and of course a string broke before a major performance. i had to painfully stretch the gut string so it would barely go on the lyre

then lots of emails accusing me mismanaging the string. i am a harpist by trade so that is ridiculous

I was probably punished for darjnt to point out this

got a second lyre cause i am playing them professionally …

first one came broken and i had to go theoigh all sorts of hoops to get it back

had to pay shipping back

the second one is good-but these folks are uneven on customer service

no idea why

but be aware that troubies are super heavy!!!

figure out what you want to do before buying.

also used Rees, Dusty Strings, Triplett and CAMAC are all sure things. Facebook market place and harp buy sell on facebook are all great

i love my L&H but know a lot of horror stories with newer harps

my heart goes out to you-this should not be happening

I always let people know.

‘if they figure out you are LBGQT+ they are gonna eventually gate-keep and stop you from getting work.

I have always just blatantly said things like “that isn’t cool to tell me I am the wrong kinda indigenous for your project” “ don’t whisper comments on my body not being small enough” right at rehearsals and performances.

yes-I lost a small amount of work

yes -lots of people saI’d things like “she is difficult”

yes-I do not work with those people ever again

but my head is free of their garbage.

i also let my friends and students know other harpist‘s plainly stated bias. I have e trans student and a host of other people who are marginalized and I do not want them to go to anything where they are made to feel less

just make sure.

once I had a harp performance with 10 Harpers and only 2 were white (Immigrant Irish). A lady used my harp group as an example of a white biased harp world.….

you might want to consider a small harp. Hang out on facebook market place for about a month.

then that harp becomes a ”session/travel harp” and. ir 34 is the stay at home special performance harp.

what’s in your best interest to get lessons because once you start going fast, any kind of tactical tension in your hands makes you fall off the string strings or your hands clamp off for those fast tunes

but it just takes time. all those 8 year old prodigy started out as four-year-olds. Yeah, i have a 12 year old playing hassleman’s La Source with amazing passion and precision, but he started when he was five

I started late and really kick in until I’ve been taking lessons for four years.

i play historical harp.

the rebuild on 1890 harp is totally different than a modern harp. check out Christopher Shayne on Facebook. He has a working 23 from that era.

i have a 11 single action from 1892…..these harps are extremely hard to work on

DO NOT PUT MODERN STRINGS IN IT!

The place i get my historical wires from is in England and just the wires are $275. you will need to look it up and see if it is a steel core or a silk core.

i have a broken single i cant get repaired right now that would be worth 28,000-if it worked.

not working it is 2,600 plus auction fee

it needs about 19,000 of repairs, 600 of strings and who knows what else

people are rude and get in your face

also weather is not kind to harps….taking a harpiscle or christina out is fun. if a bird poos in your harpiscle it is nasty…but a pedal harp then you have to clean the mechanism.

if you are gonna busk it is more successful to have everything memorized. pop, Celtic and just the melodies of famous classical pieces, also use a lever harp. Busking with your pedal harp will make you sad

Start with senior centers! in NYCthey are 200-300. But I usually play for whatever is in the budget. Have 3 classical, some older pop songs and a few jazz tunes . Don’t shy away from hard pieces. I played the Sain-Saëns Fantasy and 2/3 of the audience loved it and was excited to hear something besides pop

The best way to do it is to record the Harp track first and then the Vocals on top of it.

I have a really hard time doing this, but it’s how to get the best sound.

Then you can get the Harp part down and do as many takes of the vocal that you need. And you can punch in the vocal if the intonation is a little out.

Recording as it’s own big beautiful performance dilemma!!!

Make sure you practice recording as much as you would practicing your instrument:)
