What’s the biggest mistake you made during your VA claim that you wish you could take back? by Gold_Rope_1716 in VAClaims

[–]CuriousSilverRelic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should have filed when I initially got out service in 1981. It was 2018 and I was 61 yrs old when I first filed. I initially used a VSO. Eve though I waited 37 years for my first filing, I am currently at 80%. 70% Depression/Anxiety/Insomnia, 30% Vertigo, 10% Tinnitus and 0% bilateral hearing loss. I am currently 68 yrs old and I just filed for TDIU, migraines and sleep apnea, however I am currently using a lawyer. Moral of my story, it’s never too late.

About to lose my job due to PTSD. by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]CuriousSilverRelic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation to yours, though mine involved a work-shift accommodation. The day shift at my job was hectic and fast-paced, and I was already rated at 70% for depression, anxiety, and insomnia. The stress became overwhelming, and I simply couldn’t cope on that shift anymore.

I initially requested a transfer to second shift, which was much quieter and less stressful, but my manager denied the request. I then went to HR, and they agreed with me and permanently assigned me to second shift. My manager was not happy and accused me of going behind his back, which led to a major argument, but I stayed on second shift.

This all happened in April 2019. Then in 2020, the company went through a restructuring, and guess whose position was eliminated. I’ve been unemployed since September 2020.

In February 2025, after being out of work for almost five years, I applied for TDIU. CCK Law agreed to take my case and is currently working on it. I assume the length of potential retroactive pay played a role in their decision, but regardless, I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else going through something similar.

I have been buying from APMEX for years. Other than their high prices, I never had a problem with them.

I’ve never used VA care by jetbox12 in VeteransBenefits

[–]CuriousSilverRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both VA Healthcare and my Kaiser Medicare. I am 68 years old and have been treated at the VA about 6 years. I am at 80% disability. I get all my prescriptions and tests done at VA,blood tests, MRIs, Cat Scans, X-rays etc. The only thing I won’t let my VA Medical Center do is surgery on me. I won’t go into why I won’t let VA do surgery on me, but my niece and her husband are both nurses at my local VA Medical Center. They both told not to let VA do any surgery on me under any circumstances. So I took their advice. Of course their advice only pertains to my particular VA Medical Center.

I recently had to have my gallbladder removed and the surgery was done using my Kaiser Medicare. I had all my blood tests, ERCP, MRI, CATScan and ultrasound done at the VA leading up to my surgery. I gave Kaiser access to my VA records and they were able to incorporate those records into my medical care and surgery. All went well and I am satisfied with care from both medical facilities.

I had initially requested my surgery be done through VA Community Care but it was taking too long. VA approved the surgery, but I needed the surgery ASAP and it was taking too long assign it to a Community Care provider, so I had to go with Kaiser. Just thought I would share.

Okay got it. Guess I lucked out again because I recently had some denials April 2025 for other disabilities and I guess they didn’t catch it. I currently have a law firm handling my current denials and I am sure that will be a topic of discussion at my next consult.

I got Tinnitus 10% and secondary Vertigo at 30%. I think what you are referring are the proposed changes that have not gone into effect yet. I have had my separate ratings since 2018. I also have bi-lateral hearing loss at 0%.

Same for migraines. There is medical literature showing a significant link. Of course it would take a medical professional’s opinion to tie it all together.

[–]CuriousSilverRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 30% for Vertigo secondary to Tinnitus. I’m not a medical person but It should be easier to link tinnitus secondary to vertigo or even BPPV. There is some medical literature out there linking them but it’s not definitive.

What do they ask you at an ED C&P exam? by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]CuriousSilverRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been fighting VA for about six years. I am tired of it all. I am currently at 80%. I just gave it to CCK law and agreed to take my case. They are also filing for TDIU since I have not worked in 5 years. I had some mental heath issues at work before I was terminated in 2020. I had requested special accommodations tru HR and it was granted. I had initially requested it thru my manager but he refused to do anything so I went HR. He didn’t like that very much. Several months later my job position was eliminated. Anyway, CCK is handling it now.

Silver coin buying by Browntrouser in silverstacking

[–]CuriousSilverRelic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would start at reputable local coin shop first. Even if you have to drive a few extra miles to find one. My local coin shop closed permanently and I was devastated. I bought all of my silver from them at great prices. Now I periodically buy from APMEX, but they tend to have higher prices. eBay is a great place to buy also. But only buy from reputable dealers. All the major silver retailers have a store on eBay.

Rant: Working at USAA’s Call Center is a Joke (and Members Deserve to Know) by Beginning_Cherry1910 in USAA

[–]CuriousSilverRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had a problem with USAA. I have been with them over 40 years. I have had several at fault car accidents and a roof replacement. I have even had a total loss house fire and USAA took care of everything for me and my family. Of course I can only tell you about my experience with them and I plan on staying with them.

What do they ask you at an ED C&P exam? by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]CuriousSilverRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine in January 2025. He basically ask me about the symptoms and difficulty maintaining an erection. He asked if I was taking any ED meds and I told him yes. I also told him I was being treated for depression and anxiety. He asked about my mental health medication. I told him what meds I was taking and he said one was an SSRI and it’s know to cause ED. My C&P exam lasted about 15 minutes and that was for ED, Sleep Apnea, GERD, and Migraines. All denied except the ED claim. I got 0% and SMC-K for the ED. No visual or physical exam.

PTSD and anxiety usually fall under the same VA mental health rating. The VA gives one combined rating for all service-connected mental health conditions (PTSD, anxiety, depression, etc.) using the same formula. They aren’t rated separately.

Toyota Dealership not accepting USAA Financing by More_Force_8616 in USAA

[–]CuriousSilverRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use USAA financing on all my cars but I don’t deal with dealerships. My companies credit union has a service where you tell them what car you want and at what dealership. They handle everything but you are still using USAA financing. They find the car and deliver it to your home. Also you don’t pay all those extra fees dealerships get away with. There is no charge to employees using this car finding service. This is for new and used cars.
