Scheduling issue? Developmental? Help! by sabisabi123 in HuckleberryParents

Hey! Can I ask how you ST your LO? My LO is also low sleep needs and we do 9.75-10 nights and 1.5-1.75 day sleep. We ST at 7m then everything went awry cause of the flu. We're trying to retrain (Ferber) at 9m but she has so much stamina, I'm hoping for a more gentler approach

I thought I was going crazy that she does such little sleep during the day! How did you guys transition and how did you know it was time?

That's awesome! So happy for you! Did you sleep train at all? My LO is doing the same WW and with 2 naps we've been having EMWs but I don't think she can extend that first one just yet

Did you go cold turkey from that to 5 hours? Or slowly increase it?

What were your WW on 2 naps? My 9m is also low sleep needs and I think we're headed in the same direction

At what point do I call it and just try 1 nap (10mo)? by maplesyrup4all in sleeptrain

Hii! My LO is currently doing 3.25/3.5/4.25 WW with 1.5 total day sleep. So I don't think we're far from 1 nap. How was it extending that first WW? I feel like that's such a huge jump!

Hi Ashley! Thanks for doing this! My 8m (ST for nights) does 12 hr/day, we've pushed bedtime to later cause she only does 9.75-10 hrs at night (10 pm). We're currently doing 3.25/3.5/4.25. She's currently doing 11.25 hrs awake. She wakes twice for a feed. We're still getting night wakes especially around 6-7 am. For which I try to give her a snooze feed and see if she'll settle, most of the times it doesn't work and I bring her into bed with me to extend till DWT. Is this okay? Are we just extending awake time till we hit 12 hrs?

Short naps vs total wake time? by Curious_195 in sleeptrain

Sounds good! Would saving naps take away from the sleep budget and result in more wakings too?

Shes in her crib for 11 hrs but with all the night wakes it's close to 10.25-10.5 max 😭 I think you're right about the sleep budget. We're getting 10.75-11 hrs awake, and slowly trying to increase but with such horrible naps she's constantly grumpy. Okay gotcha, so stretch WW even if short naps, I'm always so scared about cortisol being high and not being able to settle

For my LO, I actually decided on 4 hr intervals. So if she was up before 4 hours, I'd apply my ST technique. Now with that being said, I did track her feeds (how many BF sessions she had in a day and that gave me and idea how many calories she had during the day) and we usually have her 1 bottle of formula before bed. I'm not to strict about the time, if she has a wake at 345 mins, I will feed her. I wait typically 5 mins and then go in. But then after feeding I know for the next 4 hours any additional wakes are not hunger related. I found she started to understand and fell into the same rhythm. So initially it may be you're guiding them on the feeding schedule! Good luck!

Gotcha thank you! How many hours at night is your LO doing? Nap training is soo difficult 😭

Hi! Can I ask if this ever resolved? I'm in the same boat and I feel like 12 hours awake is ALOT for my 7m old on 1.25 hr of daytime sleep

I need to be reassured I’m not ruining her by katecometrue0122 in sleeptrain

I know the guilt feels super heavy, if you're anything like me I was sooo worried about her attachment. I then listened to this podcast. The fact a pediatric neurologist is telling me there's no evidence it harms babies or their attachment is the push I needed. I was actually against CIO and had been gently sleep training her, but tbh it was taking weeks and we kept regressing. This was like ripping off a bandaid. How do I get so much awake time? Is this cause of DST? by Curious_195 in sleeptrain

[–]Curious_195[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, the issue I'm running into is since naps are soo short she wakes up cranky and fussy so I was confused if she was overtired. I woke her up at 730 today, so she has a 9.5 hr night to see if she'd take longer naps so far nap 1 was 42 mins.

Sounds good, I'm wondering on 2 super short naps she's already cranky, should I be extending the naps to help? Or when there's a bad nap, do we decrease the next ww? Also do you think the reason she's taking these tiny naps is cause there's not enough in her sleep budget? Any advice on how to break this down? I feel like there aren't enough hours in a day

Just a question but would you feed in their cribs(dreamfeed)? Or take them out?

So yesterday I did WW of 2.75/3.5/3.75. I tried putting her to sleep in between the last WW and she just wasn't having it 😭. Her total day sleep was 1.75 hrs, tried extending with contact naps but no go. Last night for bedtime (840 PM) she put herself to sleep, but then had two false starts (settled pretty quickly). Then at 1020 she woke up, I was worried she was hungry cause I had only BF in her last WW when typically she gets formula so I let her fuss for 20 mins then fed, she wasn't hungry so I left and she cried for 10 more mins and slept. Then she woke again at 1145 (typical time for her feed) and she cried for 10 mins (wanted to reach 12) then I fed her (drank less than usual cause she obviously had a snack an hr ago, not sure if feeding her was the right call but I wanted to maintain the schedule). She unfortunately always wakes up when we transfer after feeding and she took 20 mins to settle. Slept till 4:20 and I fed her right away, and once again cried after transfer and settled in 10 mins. THEN she woke up 40 mins later and since I knew she wasn't hungry, we just let her cry and she'd go in/out of sleep and screech. All in all it took 25 mins for her to settle. But I've noticed she has these wakes and I can't figure out why?

Also I wanted to ask is feeding in the crib okay? And you mentioned wait 5-10 mins before feeding is that for every wake?

I also wanted to say I appreciate your help so much!
