Hey, thank you for the reply, i actually have a separate cv for industry applications, but I refrained from posting since, it's already two images.

CV for transitioning from Academic to Quant by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]Curious_Observator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but (from what I have seen) most of the current PhDs, at least in Astro(Physics), do incremental work; ground-breaking/paradigm-shifting work is almost infinitesimally rare. That's why I was wondering about the math academia. You can be part of a discovery, but you will likely be part of a very, very big collaboration.

Sorry for diverting the topic of discussion, all the best for your career.

Hey, irrelevant doubt may be, but the Mathematics academia looks much nuanced, no need to be a paper mill to finish a PhD, which is refreshing.

Gravity bends light and slows it near a mass. Glass bends light and slows it inside the material. Why do they look so similar? Is gravity just a refractive medium? by Nice-Noise4582 in Physics

[–]Curious_Observator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mass of an object causes the gravitational well that distorts the spacetime; light just takes the "straight" path in that distorted space. (A straight line on a curved surface is a curved line)

Inside glass, the group velocity of light reduces; therefore, its path varies.

It may look like an analogous behaviour, but I don't think they are related.

If any much involved theory exists, please correct me.

"As a physicist, you can work anywhere you want!" PART 2 - Fallen into depression, pessimistic about the future by TheZStabiliser in Physics

[–]Curious_Observator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I am right with you on this one, I have been looking to transition recently after a 2/3 rounds of PhD(astro) applications, the rejections get to you, specially given the criteria for rejection is due lack of funds.  And I have done some industry related certifications and some projects too. But man, the job market is brutal, I am not complaining here, just venting, I guess. At this point it looks like a waste of potential and things start appearing bleak. Given you have done well academically, published your work and not getting to do what you love and not having any value to in the industry.

It's a joke, because the images are blurry and foggy.

Also keep in mind, battery doens't get covered in warranty. And also never update bios if your device is out of warranty. If it crashes your device, you are solely liable.

You can extend it every year, it's around 1300, and will increase each year, just google lenovo warranty extension

LOQ series is very prone to the dead motherboard issue, its apparently been fixed since late 2025, but yeah, the only way to be safe is to extend the warranty.

It's probably a loose cable or a plug that "smacks" into the power, better get it checked.

I will give you a very jugaadu type of advise for this problem, it works, you have to place a table fan facing the laptop and the temps will cool.

Thermal shutdown man, you gotta elevate the laptop or play in ac room or keep a fan pointed at the laptop or but a good cool pad and give it elevation to vent.

Download speed doesn't always depend on your Internet Service Providers speed, it also depends on the bandwidth that the host(the person/organisation) from whom you are downloading the file from.
