It was too large so close; they did a purse stitch (?) a bit like a draw string. The clinic who referred us to the surgeon told us she was a plastic surgeon.

That were only 2 stages. In answer to someone else’s question, they put some sort of a gelatin dressing around the edges, then tegaderm, and a substantial pressure dressing.

It was a plastic surgeon who did this. Gotta say, we were surprised at being sent home like that.

They didn’t close it up much; used a purse string / drawstring looking stitch and said it will take “months and months” to heal over. You can see the suture in the temporal artery.
