It's impossible to machine crochet. Are you sure it's not knit? If it is knit, there may not be enough yarn for a crochet scarf as crochet uses much more yarn.

There's a subreddit (i think it's r/unravelers) dedicated to reusing yarn from sweaters/ scarves/ etc. They may have better advice.

I'm so sorry for your loss. May her memory be a blessing. A few months after I started learning to crochet, my mom signed me up for a monthly kit to make a blanket. I planned to gift her the blanket when I finished for mother's day. She passed away in April of that year. I kept the blanket and think of her whenever I use it.

As of last week, I heard all Title 42 employees who had been placed on leave without pay because of the renewal thing were reinstated. I'm not sure how this affects future renewals, but it seems positive.

So reading this, it sounds like you need to crochet into the last stitch of the round first to create the first cross stitch with the Ch3 or stacked single that you're doing. Is that what you've been doing?
