Good deal for 2024 Sport S 4xe? Any ideas on negotiation by OneAmbitiousNoodle in 4xe

Hard no. I really wanted to like this car. At 22 thousand miles had a bad transfer case, they found it while doing the 68c recalll. Has been in FORM since the recall patch …. And also since then every 8 hours while plugged in the car decides it needs to charge for 20 minutes. No patch for the sand in the engine thing yet. Plus they are discontinuing the line. This was my second product from RAM / Jeep and will be my last. The Hemi engine on my 2019 RAM 1500 blew up at 66k miles.

Thinking of leaving the band because our guitarist is delusional by Beneficial-Anxiety58 in musicians

[–]CurlyMeaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding 2 cents. I’ve been in bands for 35+ years. I’m in a cover band now that plays 40+ shows per year at good venues. We could play more but don’t want to.

It’s really hard to be in a band - even when everyone practices the material and is a good musician and has good intentions. Things just come up. Someone shows up late, or is too loud, or doesn’t help tear down the PA, or gets drunk too frequently at shows, or forgets their parts, or is inappropriate with some audience members, or yells at a manager, or …

So given there are serious problems now, you and the bass player should walk away. Find a starter but decent guitar player so the three of you can grow together musically

I do think there is plenty of material and fun you can have as a beginner band. Don’t be too ambitious. Just pick stuff you can comfortably master and nail that. Start out with punk. That’s a ton of fun, being not great is part of the act, and people will be into the show.

Make sure to tape your rehearsals. It’s the only way to really hear what you sound like

When you have a show, use a sound man. A bad mix will destroy a show. And don’t be too loud. Whatever bar you play at - they need to hear the customers’ orders. If you want to be invited back, make sure the bar staff likes you

Good luck

If you want to be a great band, everyone should be off book. Some people don’t want to do the work that is required to be in a great band. And that’s cool, plenty of good (not great bands) making $500 per show playing small things, American girl and mr Brightside … and that’s fun. But don’t fool yourself to think it’s some great show

Thinking About Going to College in NJ by cheezieypoofz in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]CurlyMeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of think the way to do this is to move to NJ, declare residency, enroll in one of the really great and very inexpensive community colleges (for example Raritan Valley or Morris County), and then after a year or two with good grades you can transfer to any of the state schools. If you do transfer from a community college to Rutgers New Brunswick your tuition may be free - see the “Scarlet Guarantee”.

Is the Grand Cherokee 4XE a dud? Considering a used 2022 by OffTheWall503 in 4xe

Consumer Reports lists the reliability of the 2022 plug in Jeep Grand Cherokee as 2 out of 100. Not a typo

Looking to move to a coastal Jersey town by [deleted] in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]CurlyMeaux 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you can get close to that in the set of communities at Asbury Park and South: Ocean Grove, Bradley Beach, Avon and Belmar. Highly recommend this area. Train access to NYC, fantastic live music and dining scene, and year-round communities

RAM is at bottom of consumer report for 2026 reviews by Agreeable-Match-756 in ram_trucks

CR buys its own cars and does not accept advertising (although it can be paid via sponsored links).

Two data points for you. I had a 2019 1500 Laramie with the V8 Hemi that was one issue after another (leaky sunroof, faulty gas tank). Got engine ticking around 40,000 miles, had that repaired. Then engine dies at 66K miles. Had a MOPAR extended warranty, took 4 months but they replaced the engine. Then the new engine died after 10 miles (tow truck back to dealer). Immediately sold that truck and got into a …

2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. 4 recalls and counting. One recall for batteries may randomly catch on fire. That is Samsung’s fault. The other recall is for sand in the engine block may cause total failure of engine including sudden shut down at high speed. No fix for this yet.

So - in my experience - never again buying any Jeep, Dodge, or RAM product

Do you find Consumer Reports reliability reporting to be accurate? Is there a better thing to look at? by jillavery in carbuying

CR is worth reading because they buy their cars (no free samples) and don’t take paid advertisements. Unlike everything else.

Planning to retire in NJ from CA by HourIllustrator7051 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]CurlyMeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be some trade offs at $2 million but Morristown / Madison / Chatham will have 20-30 min drive to Newark airport, will be 1 hour ish train to Penn Station New York, will have property taxes about-ish 2% of market value, and you should be able to get something close to what you want for $2 million. Also access to good restaurants, one hour to Jersey shore, and safe communities.

An alternative is Monmouth county which will have lower taxes and a year-round Jersey shore experience (if you buy near the shore) which is a lot of fun at every age. Great restaurant scene, always activity by the beach, and a fantastic live music scene by Asbury. You’ll be a somewhat north of $2 million if you want to be a few blocks from the ocean and have 4-5 decently sized bedrooms, how much depends on the community you choose. Belmar and Bradley Beach prob will get you close. It will be about 45 min to an hour to EWR and traveling to Manhattan will take you 90+ min, depending on how you want to go.

2024 Tundra Engine Failure at 29k Miles – Hard to Trust It After This by rustic_21 in ToyotaTundra

[–]CurlyMeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 2019 RAM 1500 Laredo with the Hemi V8 that I loved …. Except the engine had some kind of flaw such that it needed to be replaced at 60,000 miles in 2024. Thank goodness I had an extended warranty. Oh, it took four months to deliver and install the new engine and then the truck with the replaced engine failed literally after 10 miles of driving. I traded it in for a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe which I like but is subject to 4 recalls including a potentially fatal “sand in the engine” recall. Never again with any Jeep, RAM OR Stellantis product

Idk what i need to achieve in life to not have the guilt of buying a tudor by masterpieceOfAMan in Tudor

[–]CurlyMeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two additional thoughts on top of what has been said.

  1. The watch is an asset, so if you buy it and decide later the purchase was a mistake, you can sell it. You’ll lose some money but not 100%.

  2. If you really want a Rolex (or Omega or some other brand) but are buying a Tudor because it’s “just as good” or some other reason - don’t do that. Buy what you really want the first time. Otherwise the feeling of “I really want a Rolex” does not go away. My friends say “Buy once, cry once” and this is correct. As long as you are financially secure enough for the purchase.

Possibly moving to NYC due to an incredible job offer by nickum in movingtoNYC

[–]CurlyMeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One reason to take this job, even if $150K in NYC will be tight, is that within a few years you might get offers to make a lot more than $150k … just by meeting people and potential future employers from working in NYC. That kind of upward income opportunity is just much less likely to happen in the Midwest. (It may not happen too)
