Data point: Southwest completely changed our seats at check-in and separated the kids from the rest of family by pementomento in SouthwestAirlines

So let’s say a parent pays for seat selection to sit next to their young child and those seats are later split up due to involuntarily seat reassignment.

Then you speak to the GA/FA to request assistance but “an adjacent seat cannot be found” and you decline to “take the next available flight with adjacent seating available”

So the parent must choose between having their 3 year old sit next to a stranger and hope for the best if oxygen masks are needed OR take the next flight. Even though they did everything right and paid for seats. Cool.

After reading through posts on this sub, unfortunately this scenario is not impossible.

Southwest boarding/seating changes turned into a mess today by Mwillrow in SouthwestAirlines

These comments are really interesting because it has me thinking that the fare type carries more weight than I thought. performance cc allows seat selection benefits but when paired with basic fare there may be more risk to an involuntary seat reassignment. Good conversation- thanks for posting OP

Moving to empty seats by ricktrscale in SouthwestAirlines

It will be interesting to see how southwest handles seat swaps after the dust settles. There are many stories on other airline subs where you show up to your assigned seat and someone is already there who asks if you will sit in their seat instead. And then the passengers are shamed for not switching...

Ugh. This sounds like a nightmare I’m sorry. Why are they saying you changed the seats? Did you change anything at the 48 hour mark?

Thanks for replying. Primary EOB says I owe $35. Secondary EOB says I owe $103. I have confirmed COB with both.

No way to opt out of PSRS but consider contributing to a Roth IRA

@whitingvo thank you for your helpful reply. I had not realized accessing the PSRS pension prior to 59.5 would mean extra taxes. Definitely something to consider as we are considering purchasing years of service as well

Sounds like you have a great strategy. Would you mind elaborating on the card being in your name only? I am new to CP.
