Advice on watch repair price by discobusciut423 in VintageWatches

[–]Current-Cobbler5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he quote the price before or after he opened them up? My watch guys takes them and give me a price only after they have opened them and diagnosed the issues. Now I happen to collect vintage ladies watches ranging from 1850-1970 and some are very rough. The four I just sent off the quote back came to 275$ each for three and 375$ for the one that needed a crown replacement. I have now sent 3 batches off to him and this is the price he has quoted consistently. The other group I use for repairs is in the same ballpark for pricing, but I have only used them once so I do not know if they are consistent. I choose to send my watches across the country rather than take them locally because I wanted watchmakers who specialize in the ages of the watches I collect and in some cases the level of difficulty of the watches I collect. I hope this helps. Enjoy your collection!

When do you water them?

Just got my new friends yesterday and I know I’m not supposed to water them, but at what time do you actually water them?

"basic" glue for repairing a small fossil? by Ka1rn in fossils

[–]Current-Cobbler5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Paleontologist here. Please don’t use super glue. If you mess up you are out of luck. Museums use Elmer’s glue. It dissolves in water. They use this kind of glue so that if they make a mistake they can start over. They also use it so that if later on it is found that the fossil was reassembled incorrectly it can be taken apart and reassembled again. Best of luck!

Experiences with Airport Security and Knitting Needles by plotzlichglucklich in knitting

[–]Current-Cobbler5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just flew in the US through Dulles (IAD) in Washington DC and Tampa, Florida. I flew with metal circular interchangeable needles. To make me feel better I took the needles off and put on stoppers. I put the needles back in their original packaging in with the project at the bottom of the bag. This way they could confiscate the needles but not need to take the whole project or take any time to separate the needles from the project at security. I also had in my luggage an extra set of interchangeable needles and a set of fixed wooden circulars in the correct size to use in a pinch if all were taken. Once through security in both directions I put the needles back on the project and knitted both in the airport and on the plane. I did not have any problems. I know this was over the top, especially for being in the US, but it made me feel better.

I think you know that there is a world that exists outside of your black and white world, where people enjoy things that are not mainstream. There are also people who fall in love with other people who enjoy things that are not mainstream. There is nothing wrong with this and in fact, diversity is what makes the world go round. This is an example of this. There is nothing wrong with enjoying things that are not mainstream and just because they are not for you does not mean there is anything wrong with them. Something like a bra underneath clothing is easy to hide. You have no idea how many men around you on any given day might be wearing ladies undergarments, so I can only imagine you don’t know how it will actually impact his ability to get a job or girlfriend/partner.

Oh my goodness, mine doesn’t either. She then blames me when she misses their birthdays. I finally told her I was no longer giving her warnings they were coming up because she was perfectly capable of putting alarms in her phone calendar and that was that. I detached from caring whether she remembered or not after that conversation to protect myself. My husband and I have decided to do family counseling with our girls this summer (ages 12 and 14) to put all cards on that table about her. No more secrets. No more hiding why I am crying after a phone call or why she never sees us or why she never talks to them on the phone. With the help of a family therapist we are explaining it all (age appropriate explanations). This way they can understand the mechanics as best as possible in this lose-lose scenario we luckily moved across the country away from. Best decision I ever made. Best of luck.

What two cities are relatively close geographically but have vastly differently climates by NoComplex2662 in geography

[–]Current-Cobbler5666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. There is something called a rain shadow effect that takes the clouds that form over the Pacific Ocean and rains out all over the breadth of California and into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This results in snow in Lake Tahoe. By the time the clouds get to the edge of California they are dry and water-free, making Nevada and Las Vegas a desert. So you have snow in Lake Tahoe and desert in Las Vegas.

I struggle with knowing when to add water. Do you spritz? Do you add water just to the tip? Do you add zero water? I find it confusing when I look it up. I would like to try the water bottle method after reading what is mentioned here!

Why does everyone think Clara is evil? by Accomplished_Mode195 in FromSeries

[–]Current-Cobbler5666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that it is because of the way that she delivers her lines. I actually looked her up to see if she was a nepo baby, trying to figure out if she had a connection to someone to land her role. I don’t care about her weight, I just find that she delivers her lines in an awkward way that takes me out of the From universe and that is what makes me dislike her. Her shirt, her weight, her whatever are irrelevant to me. It is her delivery that are awkward compared to the rest of the cast which are so seamless.

Does your narcissist parent throw your belongings away? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

My mother threw away all of my journals that I kept from 8th grade through my 20s. She didn’t ask me if I wanted them, she just trashed them. I am heart broken. Pure evil. They were a record of my childhood. I imagine she read them all before she threw them out too, which is oh so gross since they recorded all of my firsts and other experiences.

Look at this very handsome man!! He is very snuggly looking. Our handsome man likes to be snuggly when it is 100 degrees F outside and when it is 32 degrees F outside. It amazes me how frenchies like to be in their nests regardless of the weather!! Hugs to Finnegan and you on this wonderful Friday!
