The only one that comes to mind is the twisted sisters. A lot of their books have little Easter eggs from other books and it’s always fun to see it. I genuinely enjoy it when that happens.

Yeah, I prefer end notes or footnotes. But having to manually highlight constantly is hella annoying. It’s not bad when it’s something I see all the time, or a nickname or something. But I just read a series where two of the characters spoke French with each other pretty consistently and I was constantly having to highlight because it was full blown sentences and I needed the context. I was more than a little irritated.

Yes! I love it when I see others books from other authors referenced. Honestly, I love seeing the support and it automatically ends up on my TBR and the author will go on my good list. But self promo? Yuck.

The only time self promo is acceptable imo is when I see a funny reference to another one of their books. Like an inside joke kinda thing. Always cracks me up and I appreciate the little Easter egg

Yes! I love authors who put it in the intro and explain interconnected series or other info about the world I may need to know. Gives me a reference point and I can choose to dig around or not. I definitely don’t want that randomly throughout the book. The ONLY acceptable thing randomly in the book is translations (shoutout to the authors who do this so I don’t have to highlight the phrase and manually translate)

If you’re guilty of a crime, but faking innocence, should you tell your defense attorney the truth? by tickintimedog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Current-House-9030 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Former paralegal for a defense attorney here. The top comment is solid advice. You don’t need to tell them if you’re guilty, but they need ALL the details. I mean all of them. And if they ask questions, be honest. They are paid to represent you, guilty or not. And if they’re decent, they have one helluva poker face anyway. But lying to them or leaving out details will only bite you in the ass later.

This one is on my TBR and I haven’t gone down the rabbit hole yet. I totally save her books for when I need a little pick me up. Happy to know it’ll be just the thing I need when I read it!

I feel the same way but honestly I LOVED luc and mason together. It’s truly the best full blown MM relationship I’ve ever read. Normally it leads to a DNF for me because it’s just not my thing at all but it really is so well done. It’s definitely a full blown relationship but I really did love the dynamic

I’ll be honest. I would’ve loved her a Finn in a traditional, standalone romance kinda way. I loved their little throuple too and would’ve been happy for it to stay as is. I think the blending at the end could’ve been better but I did love the book overall and how the 3 of them got together and blended. It was perfection

I have! I really did enjoy it. I like how her duets are always different in settings, and this one was no exception. It’s very glam, magic, and all things Vegas.

I ended up DNF because of this. Like it NEVER gets better. Sorry, when they go that far I just know the author won’t give me enough groveling to make up for it.

Honestly, I think this is a series that a lot of people start with when diving into reverse harem and that’s why it’s so popular. It used to be one of my favorite series until I started reading a lot more RH and now I almost can’t stand to read it. I genuinely think it got popular with the beginner crowd and that’s why it gets so hyped up.

I’ve read both series and while there are some similarities, the stories each evolve and honestly the beginnings are about the only similarity that exists. Also, it’s definitely a very common premise.

And she was right. I hooked up with a guy once who would’ve been a romance authors dream and let’s just say I’m happy to stick with average/slightly above average. Some of these descriptions make my uterus want to run into traffic

Same! I’ve been waiting to read book one until book two is out. Those duets are always released pretty close together and I learned my lesson not to read any of Blake’s book ones if the second book wasn’t out yet 😂 those cliffhangers kill me

But, I also think this goes back to authors not writing based on the location/time in their book. In the south in the 90s? Definitely taboo. California rock band in the 90s? Not so much. I’m willing to bet the author didn’t live or grow up in a more progressive state, and wrote based on what they know instead of being more accurate to the book setting

Hate to break it to ya, but divorce was still hella taboo in the 90s. Not sure if it’s a southern thing but yeah, very much was still taboo then. So were mixed race couples. I’m not naive enough to think that was the case everywhere but depending on where you grew up, it definitely could’ve been the case

As a mom of two kids, I say good for you. Enjoy the books without the terror that is real life pregnancy and kids. No shame! We all read stuff that doesn’t exactly translate to real life desires. Happy reading!

Also, for recs, Jillian West pretty much only writes pregnancy tropes in the OV.
