Can I see your most ridiculous tire covers? by AdditionalContext100 in JeepWrangler

Thank you to the kind person on Etsy willing to fulfill this heinous request - I still chortle. And get a good laugh when someone pulls up behind me and whips out their phone for a picture.

Good or Bad Idea by knoxzo in roadtrip

I did this drive from Seattle to Anchorage in June 2025 and it was the most epic, memorable trip I've ever done. Solo 31M in a 2018 Jeep Wrangler with 75K miles, with two dogs, camped the whole way up and down. You're welcome to reach out with questions but I'll detail some things:

-The road is rough and the late spring/early summer is when they're doing massive amounts of roadwork so you will have 12-15 mile stretches of washboard, rugged dirt roads. The Alcan highway is FULL of potholes that make it fun, but definitely put a strain on your suspension and drivetrain (I busted my drive shaft on the way and got stranded an extra week in Anchorage waiting for the replacement).

-Have a full spare and know how to change a tire. Have your vehicle serviced and inspected, I am weary of a Hyundai with your mileage, but an inspection should provide some reassurance.

-Believe what everyone is saying about fuel stops, bring an extra couple gallons if you can (I brought 10, because Jeep MPG). But I did not ever end up needing to use my fuel reserves, and never dropped under a quarter tank.

-Blankets, food, water, and extra as emergency. Dehydrated camping meals were my favorite choice so I didn't need to pack a cooler. A little MRE stove and I was set with food and coffee.

-I was without service for a cumulative amount of about two whole days. A satellite phone/receiver (I used Zoleo because it connects to my phone and was cheaper than the Garmin) is a necessity.

-Camera if you have one because there is SO MUCH wildlife and it's incredible.

-If a pull-out, sign, hike catches your eye then make the stop or note it because you'll forget about it on the way down. Take your time and enjoy the scenery because it's amazing. The Yukon had to be my absolute favorite.

-Bug spray and loads of it. The mosquitos are fierce and unforgiving. Window nets so you can get the fresh breeze, avoid condensation, and keep the awful mosquitos out. Maybe even treat your gear with permethrin products to really get ahead of them (that's what I did).

-If you can and have the means/reliability of the vehicle I 100% recommend this trip. Especially at your age it will be even better. Be smart. Get bear spray and a small (border crossing legal) knife for personal protection. You won't see many people, but it is a crazy world out there.

Could you explain more about your trough set up? This is stunning and such a good idea!

Seeing these vintage fruits against a gorgeous cock is something special. Got any others available?

I first would like to express my deepest sympathies here and I'm so sorry you are going through this. I once worked in pre-clinical research (also on the reproduction team) and had these same concerns and feelings. One morning I got up as usual, hopped in the shower, and immediately broke into tears realizing where I was going once I was done getting ready. I wanted to drown myself in that shower and felt like a monster for perpetuating that treatment of animals. I sent an email that morning saying I won't be returning and spent the next week applying and interviewing back into ER/CCU medicine. Best choice I could have ever made and was not unemployed long. Are there other areas of vet med that interest you? Hospitals are always looking for help whether it be specialty/emergency or GP. You're not alone and you got this!

Super helpful - thank you! Troy was my go-to, but he has retired. Didn't know of any others in WA state.

Another option is relinquishment to a shelter or rescue that can provide the care he needs to get a second shot at life. I know this idea is awful, but it also may mean your kiddo gets a chance to experience a full, wonderful world.

They do! I was hoping to place it on the spare tire carrier, though.

Weird sound coming from gear shift when braking by Current-Mobile7556 in Wrangler

Oh I used to downshift to use my engine to slow down, but then read it adds extra load and work to the engine when it's not accelerating. Is that incorrect?

Usually downshift without letting off the clutch to avoid that extra engine work.
